In 1958 There Were No 'Filming While Driving' Laws

You kids today, what with your Google Fiber, and Weirdo Festivals. In my day, the only "information highway" was 99, and to have fun you took it to 152. And that was your day. Of fun. Banos.

Check this out, it's pretty cool. A guy uploaded some home movies his grandpa took back in 1958 of a trip from Fresno to San Jose. It's a five part-er, the first two has some old Fresno in it and yeah you may need to be a Downtown and Highway 99 expert to pick out some familiar stuff, but it's fun to watch anyway (although the Los Banos Airport hasn't changed a DAMN bit in 52 years).

Part two:

Attention Touring Bands! Please Have Your Vans Checked Before Coming To Fresno

Tuesday it became apparent there is some sorta curse for bands that use vans to travel to Fresno. Yes, we are in the middle of a VAN-CURSE, people. At least Orange County band, The Workday Release figured out a way around the curse: use three cars.

That's right, if you're a band coming to Fresno, don't trust your van, get three cars:

We heard it too, the guys did say they're looking for a van. Don't do it dudes, unless you need an excuse to cancel a Fresno show. BTW, we like these TWR guys, because there wasn't one bad comment about Highway 99 in that whole video. Trust us, we've gone through too many H99 videos on YouTube (bloggin ain't easy sometimes) and most have a 99 or Fresno crack in them.

You're Not A Fresnan Until: You've Been to Forestiere Underground Gardens

Over 100 years ago, Baldassare Forestiere, accidentally on purpose, started creating THE most unique place in Fresno. He spent much of his life carving and Fresno Scraping through, Fresno hardpan. All for the hell of it, really. Along the way, he kept with his uniqueness theme by becoming a pretty innovative Horticulturist.

Oddly, the Gardens are contrasted by inorganic things like a Carl's JR, hotels and a teeny tiny Subway. And you know, people traveling through Fresno on 99, that take the Shaw exit and head to the In & Out, don't even know what lies across the street and underground. But it's a sure bet they notice how ugly that exit is. Wouldn't it be nice if this area could be improved, with the Underground Gardens as the centerpiece?

Best thing for us right now though, the Gardens are expanding their summer hours. So there are no excuses. Before the end of the summer, become a true Fresnan and go below ground.

Fresno's Labor Day weekend a true Fresnerd succes!

People that think Fresno sucks in the summer can kiss my fresnerd ass. How could a weekend filled with this, suck?

• Found out a best Friend is pregnant while having a large drink at Maroo.
• Almost drowned that friend's first born with an obnoxiously fun pool toy.
• Watched Fresno mariachis play in front of a fig tree at a birthday party.
• Ate tri-tip at a Fresno barbecue with perfect weather.
• Finally experienced Cabo Wabo in Fresno in full working order; so happy that I have another unique venue to bring out of town guests too.
• Watched the Bulldogs beat down the East Coast.
• Had chorizo and eggs with a beautiful woman at Irene's and saw the Frank D there.

So all you Fresno haters can simply: Suck. It.
