Rumors and Speculation: Is Palomino's Done?

UPDATE (OCT 23): It now comes to us from Edward Stewart's blog that somebody in charge of the Tower Theatre building has painted over Josh Wigger's mural on the side of Palomino's. Just like that. No disscussion, it's gone. Even if they had the legal right to do this, it's pretty bad mojo to be doing that, without disscussion, to a Tower District landmark.

ORIGINAL POST (OCT 16): Went to have some dinner at Palomino's in the Tower District this weekend. Couldn't get a table though ... because the place was closed. At 7:00. On a Saturday night.

Called Palomino's earlier in the day and the phone line has been disconnected. Maybe they did a closed-because-we're-dead-when-the-fair-is-in-town thing. But there was no signage stating this or anything else.

And this POSSIBLE closing on the heels of their next door neighbor calling it a day. Plus there's still nothing open in the old Daily Planet space. Can't be easy paying the rent on those Tower Theatre building spaces.

Timmy T: Bar Fight Guy

We've been telling you about the Timmy T "reality" show being taped around town. Oh, and that he possesses a Twitter account that Mike Oz has pointed out, contains waaay to much info'. Well, now there's proof that Timmy's show, actually exists.

Yes, it's exactly what we thought it would be: Balls awesome! (in a fun trainwreck-y sorta way)...

Lance Armstrong Expecting Clovis to Suck Today

Well no, he doesn't really. Actually, we have no idea what Lance expects of Clovis when he and his team roll into town today. All we know is, he had a nice dinner at some Modesto restaurant last night [pictured right -stolen from his Twitter feed].

Wonder where in Fresno/Clovis he'll be tonight. Do you know? Did you see him? Did you join the army? Were you one of the 25,000 plus expected in Clovis for the Amgen Tour of California? Did it kick ass and stuff?

Refried Post: Kevin Federline comes back to Fresno... well Clovis anyway

As reported by The Hive via TMZ, Fresno's native Papa Zao does come home [In previous interviews, Kevin implied he doesn't come back anymore]. The pics show K-Fed at Clovis restaurant, Japanese Kitchen, with his girlfriend along with his Brit-toddlers.

Sure, it could be that Kevin was just up visiting his family, but I like to think he finally read my open letter to him that was written after he and Brit broke up. I think it still holds up. Get your tissue box out for this one:

It is time to come home, Kevin. Come home to Fresno, Kevin. Yes, we called you Kevin because we know you've never liked K-Fed. We understand it offends you. Fresno won't call you by it anymore.

          Come home Kevin.

We forgive you. Forgive you for leaving Fresno and disrespecting it every chance you got. We understand. Every Fresno native does it when they first leave. It's just something that is done.

Monday Hangover: Timmy T Reads Blogs

UPDATE: So I originally pulled the post below because... hell I dunno... power trip maybe? Actually, it was far too interesting for this blog, so I left it for Ed Luv (he started it anyway) to post about. But since Timmy T sent out a myspace bulletin about Ed's post, saying it was funny, I figured it would be cool to let this comment craziness loose again. Enjoy, and if you read this Timmy and you don't think it's cool or real, just leave a defending comment or tell me to pull it... wait, that didn't come out right.

We've been on a long streak of sucking lately when it comes to dope items.  Thankfully some Fresno bloggeradery (maybe that's how it's spelled) is breaking our suck streak.  Ed Stewart sent in this pic of Fresno's own Timmy T stopped at Blackstone and Shields today. 

Let this be a lesson to you Fresno Celebs, if you don't want some blogger taking pictures of you at intersections, don't put your name on you car.  Something tells me Timmy doesn't mind though.

The Dope: Cops and Casters

Have you seen or heard some Fresno gossip lately?  These readers have:

ITEM ONE:  Fellow local blogger Ed Stewart spotted and even took pictures of Corin Hoggard & John-Thomas Kobos at the Landmark in the Tower District.  Unfortunately, Graciela was not pictured...dammit!

ITEM TWO:  "I saw Dan Taylor and Angelo Stalis at Thirsty Thursday at the Grizzlies game. They were dressed in their newscaster uniform: white shirts, ties. I can't say whether they had $1 beers, but they were taking food of some sort up the elevator so they didn't have to eat with the commoners, i.e. me."

ITEM THREE: Fresno's chief of police, Jerry Dyer, was having lunch at Livingstones last week with a few of his officers.  As he was leaving, he stops above the bar area (populated by only two people in the corner) and, as if he was running for President, says "Hows it goin!?" to nobody in particular and walks out.

The Dope: Hot. News. Chicks.

A reader of The Fresnan shared a elevator with Nicole Garcia from KMPH, and just a half hour before saw Malcolm Sosa from Rademacher at Cafe Corazon.  It pays to hang downtown sometimes.

The reader felt Nicole "...looks better in person than on TV."  It seems that most our newscasters are hotter in person.  I've seen Graciela (yeah, she's at one-name status) and Jennifer Brice around and they are even hotter in person.

Chicks dig Squatters

Last chance ladies to faun over America's Squatter, Barry Smith.  All last weekend Smith was makin'  the Tower District Girls swoooon.  I witnessed it a couple times at different venues and the dude is good.  He may not have even been layin' game, he may just be a cool dude, not sure.

The last of Barry's one man shows are Friday at 10:00 and Saturday at 7:00, both at Starline.  And this weekend is the last of Rogue 2008 so get your asses out there.

Monday Hangover - Starline Studed

Media Nerds and actual cool people mingled at Friday's Dalloways show at Starline.  The Fresno Beehive's Mike Oz, Heather McLane and Will Albritton were spotted.  As too was the music/nitelife writer from the now dead "Get Out", Dave Childers.  Along with local author "Art Farkus", Fresno band The Same Shape and various other Fresno musicians we're not cool enough to know.

Also this weekend, Fresno State had their own private Idaho nightmare.  But baseball is coming to save the day - if they can actually get off to a decent start for once.  And tickets went on sale to see the Barryless Giants play our Grizzlies.  I guarantee Bonds would have found a way out of coming to Fresno if he was still with the team.

Monday Hangover - Bubba Pleeze

Cruising through cable on Sunday, I couldn't help but watch a little bit of Brewster's Millions - What?  Like I'm gonna watch the pro-bowl?  And lookie here, I saw me some Mayor Bubba.  Alan played the color announcer for the baseball game.

I wonder if Mr. Mayor will stick around Fresno after his term is up.  If he doesn't, unfortunately, there will be less Dope to deal out. 

A Dope Monday Hangover

So, we here at The Fresnan have begun a gossip section called The Dope.  A must have for any respectable City Blog.  This is where you can give us some tips, pics or gossip about current stuff going down in Fresno.

Well, we got our first Dope Item over the weekend:  A John Brent sighting at BJ's Brewery on Saturday night.  The Fresnan passed by the impeccably dressed John as he went to open the front door for his group and others who were taking advantage of John's politeness. 

That's it.  That was our first Dope Item.  S0oo, yeah, that item kinda sucked.  But you can help our Dope Items suck less by sending something of your own to [email protected]. 

The Dope - I want some

Have you heard the latest Fresno gossip?  We haven't.  That's why The Fresnan needs you for something new: The Dope.

When you're out and about town, occasionally you'll overhear a bit of juicy Fresno gossip.  Or maybe you even see some.  Tell us about it dammit!  We need the Fresno scuttlebutt.  No, we don't need some sorta slanderous crap.  Just something interesting about a Fresno celeb, a visiting real celeb, a restaurant closing, tips tips tips about...well, anything Fresno.

Some examples, Ron Howard has been spotted with his family a couple times in River Park (on his way to Yosemite).  Maynard of Tool has been seen at the Grape Tray.  Serj Tankian was best man at a Fresno wedding not that long ago.

Or, keep it local.  See Graciela buying underwear in Macy's?  Police Chief Dyer having a beer at a local restaurant?  Hell, we'll even take what Mayor Bubba has at his beloved NE Fresno Starbucks, or where Coach Hill buys his FuManchu trimmer.
