Chicks dig Squatters

Last chance ladies to faun over America's Squatter, Barry Smith.  All last weekend Smith was makin'  the Tower District Girls swoooon.  I witnessed it a couple times at different venues and the dude is good.  He may not have even been layin' game, he may just be a cool dude, not sure.

The last of Barry's one man shows are Friday at 10:00 and Saturday at 7:00, both at Starline.  And this weekend is the last of Rogue 2008 so get your asses out there.

Monday Hangover: Batesole's Boys blow

This was supposed to be Fresno State Baseball's year.  A year the Dogs get a regional and finally return to Omaha.  At the moment, that looks unlikely. 

Coach Batesole's Bulldogs stunk up San Diego this weekend and AGAIN will need a week of Pepsi Johnny Quick t0 try and right things.  If Batesole can't turn this team around, it may be time to bring in Ron Scott.

In happier weekend news, the Rogue Festival has yet to disappoint and there's still plenty to see. We asked the Fresno Bee's Mike Osegueda what the best shows are so far:

The Fresnan saw an afternoon performance of American Squatter and it was brilliant.  This show seems to have the best early buzz and for good reason.  Don't miss it.

Was Shakespheare an idiot?

The Beehive is going Rogue Wild with early reviews of the Rogue Festival.  But do they have an interview with one of their own bloggers?  The answer is no, no they don't.  But the Fresnan does. 

We interviewed Will from the Fresno Beehive about his Rogue play.  TAKE THAT, you hard-workin' Hive bastards.  And you don't even have to go to the trouble of reading it.  You just have to listen.

After Thursday night's preview of Rogue, The Fresnan officially has a boner for this year's Rogue Festival.

Rogue for cheap bastards

Thursday, the Rogue Festival begins.  All the shows are cheap (unless you count this), but tonight's kick-off has some free stuff.  Info from the Rogue site:

From 5:00PM - 8:00PM, Ashtree Studios will be hosting singer, poets and comedians, including: Party of One, Mia Paschal, Pieter Moerdyk, Liesl Garner, Avigdar Adams, Acoustic Highway, Tony Imperatrice, Mahzjai, and Poetry and Prose.

Veni Vidi Vici’s will be serving a similar faire, but their menu also includes some dance and rock, with performers such as: Liesl Garner, Pieter Moerdyk,Mr. Marlowe’s English Class, Makeshift Champions, Annette Ash, Ellouise Schoettler, Ananka, Kien Lim, and Charlie Worstell.

After having sampled Ashtree and Veni’s, come Full Circle (Brewing) with us from 8:00-11:00 and enjoy Terry McArthur, Blake Jones, Airplane Jayne, Mia, Kien,Tony, Word Crew, Tanjora Bellydance, and Suicide Lounge.

You can also pay for some Rogue events on Thursday.

Fresno is on high Rogue alert

The Rogue pot is starting to boil.  The West Coast's biggest Fringe [style] Festival starts Thursday, Fresno.  We know South of Shaw Dude will be out in force over the next couple weeks, but will North Fresno Guy?

For those Northies afraid to go, you can just hang out here.  Because The Fresnan will be going to as many Rogue events as possible and blogging about it along the way.  Saturday is the big Rogue day for us.  The loose plan is for the day to begin at one and end at eleven.  Hopefully with several beers.
