Fresno is now complete. Went to Yardhouse over the weekend.
Food: good. Atmosphere: good (the keg room is especially impressive). Beer: excellent. So I think we're pretty done here people with chain restaurants moving in to town. It's not going to get better than this (we're kinda over waiting for a Dave & Busters), so let's just call it good.
Now, if somebody would get to work on "Fresno's" for us we're set.

Today is Fashawn's Birthday and he's going to be partying at The Standard for it. Unaware of the particulars to this (like if he's actually performing or just partying) but we bet if you wear one of his new t-shirts (above), it'll help your chances of getting in ... just don't wear it to church on Sunday. Tonight THE music event in town (well, the only event, but still) is the Day To Remember show at Woodward Park Amphitheater. The Fresno Bee's Mike OZ has a great write up on them in Monday's Bee. You find out that Fresno, as much as any city, has seen the steady rise of the band.
Have fun trying to create pits in the unfriendly-to-pits venue that is Woodward Amp. We have confidence you'll find a way, Fresno. You'll find a way.

Tri-tip. Fresno likes it. Taste Fresno recognized the phenomenon (it's about time somebody did) and started a Tri-tip Cook-off. The 2nd one is happening this Saturday at the SJ River Parkway & Trust (North of Woodward Park). Tickets are $10 adults, $5 under 12, free under 5.
In preperation, Alisa Manjarrez from Taste Fresno did some related interviews on the No Network. One with the ever popular Doghouse Grill. If not the best tri-tip sandwiches in town, certainly the most buzzed about:

Really solid show at Audie's Olympic tonight. Two good traveling bands, two good local bands.
Costa Mesa's, The Growlers, (pictured above) they've got a surf psychadelic roots rock kinda vibe. The Fling is from Long Beach but is familiar with Fresno as they've been through town a couple maybe three times.

It was a quiet kinda week on the blogs, outside of some tea-bagging. That's why this week's Bloggiest Moment pick is hyper-local.
Blogger/artist, Teresa Flores, took a walk in Northeast Fresno and found out something: Everyone is all nice and junk. She experienced a lot of Northeasters saying "Hi!" and waving to her during her walk. Much more than any other part of town she wanders.
Hummm. So has Teresa found something positive in the NE? Are Northeasterners the friendliest Fresnans in town?

On Friday night, the Bullard High Football team kicked Clovis West's ass. In the process becoming the lone remaining Fresno area team still playing (and still undefeated).
This is a cool thing, but not for obvious reasons like a great year for the players and coach Arax. It's a cool thing because Bullard and the Fresno Unified needed this.
Needed to show all those Bullard, and other Fresno Unified refuges, that maybe they made a mistake. Made a mistake in selling out and moving north to Clovis Unified (Clovis West especially). A mistake abandoning Bullard and Fresno Unified in favor of perceived better football programs and schools.
Much repsect to those parents that stuck with Bullard when they could have taken the easy way out by heading to The NE.

Woodward Park had a possible mountain lion sighting today. Kinda cool actually, knowing that kind of wildlife is roaming the SJ riverbed, right below us (yes yes, as long as it doesn't ATTACK, we know, jezzz). It does make you think twice about going down the SJ river-trail though.
So what could Fresno do to make people feel safe from mountain lions roaming our trails? Hire something to patrol Woodward Park that would scare away a mountain lion, that's what.
But who would that be?: Pat Hill's Fu Manchu.
And we think the confrontation would go a little something like this:

Kathy Mahan's post did more than remind us that Bentley's Market closed (and her hair gets did in the same shopping center), it showed that the whole Riverview shopping center is in some trouble - even though it's in, maybe, the most affluent area of the Valley.
If a higher-end market can't work there, where in the Valley would it work?!
On a related note: One wonders if Fresno mega-developer DeWayne Zinkin should be celebrating that the development of his infamous 'Fresno 40' property is finally moving towards reality - being as it's down the street from the dying Riverview center.
While the slow deterioration of retail in Northeast Fresno does invoke a smirk from us, still, we know what's bad for one part of Fresno is bad for all of Fresno. Lets just hope Fresh & Easy does better in Downtown Fresno than Bentley's did in The NE.

Did you know that Fuzio in River Park is going to be a Subway? Yeah, seriously. How cheezy, River Park, how herb n' cheezy.
Well, maybe it will be like the ultimate Subway with extra special footlongs. You know, like the Las Vegas Boulevard McDonalds is just a little better than a regular McDonalds, or something.
Unfortunately for River Park they have no choice but to open themselves up to bland businesses like Subway (sorry Jared) because it ain't happenin' there. If you walk around long enough, you'll find plenty of boarded up storefronts around RP... plus you'll find that they sent the V out for repairs.
Blame poor RP management, overpriced rent, economy, Fresnans, Pinedale, Pat Hill's Fu Manchu, whatever, River Park's instability all came to light this week when some dweeb posted some ways on how to save River Park (ways that sounded suspiciously like ones to save some other mall). Then Fresno blogoshpere characters chimed in with their wit and, as a result, we finally got our very own Bloggiest Moment of the Week.
We almost feel sorry for River Park...almost.
