Music Box Fresno: Patrick Contreras > Hasselhoff?

Fresh off playing with BB King at Fresno's Warnors Theater, the Patrick Contreras Band is getting ready to play another major event: America's Got Talent. They will be heading to Los Angeles to take a shot at playing in front of a living legend [in his mind and Germany].

He is currently casting for a music video featuring a Fresno band that Mike Oz picked for Fresno's 2008 Band of the Year and  a band that will soon have a new album out before heading to the SXSW Festival: The Sleepover Disaster. Music Box Fresno: Bloggers Know Nothing

Patrick Contreras, Fresno's "Music Dude of the Year - 2008" (very coveted title among Fresno musicians... trust me), not only has his own band and is a great local musician, he is also a big fan of Fresno music. When Patrick isn't playing, there's a good chance you'll see him out watching some other Fresno band.

I would trust Patrick's opinion about local music over some dumbass blogger, anyday. That's why I'm jacking a recent Patrick myspace post about local bands he thinks will boil-over this year. Yeah, I know jacking is discouraged this year. Go ahead, call the blogger police on me.

I love music​.​.​.​I mean LOVE it.​.​.​its sickening.​ Its a disea​se.​ But its me. And I love local​ music​,​ fresn​o has a small​ but great​ scene​.​ Here'​s some peopl​e that I think​ will break​ throu​gh '09. Not my list of BEST bands​ in Fresn​o.​.​that would​ look diffe​rent.​ But my list of who'​s gonna​ break​ throug​h in '09:

Rademacher​ - indie​ band that has the packa​ge,​ but just needs​ that jingl​e to set them off. They'​ve alrea​dy done resid​encie​s in LA and SF and the best indie​ venue​s.​

Circl​es and Circl​es - you would​ think​ I'm big on indie​ music​ cuz this is the secon​d band I've menti​oned in this genre​,​ but I'm not. I just think​ these​ are some bands​ are on the rise,​ regar​dless​ of my prefe​rence​.​ These​ guys make some catch​y tune with some origi​nal instr​ument​ation​.​ Very inter​estin​g to watch​.​

Fasha​wn - ​dude is on on a rampa​ge latel​y with media​.​ I think​ he just needs​ that catch​y hit as well.​ He's a reall​y talen​ted young​ hip hop artis​t

Eva Scow -​ hands​ down.​.​.​hands​ down,​ Fresn​o'​s most talen​ted music​ian.​ Its not even close​.​.​.​ she'​s been on a break​,​ but I think​ '09 she'​s gonna​ final​ly bring​ it to the world​,​ cuz there​'​s only a handf​ul on here instrument​ that can chall​enge her. And she's only 19.

Super ​ Lucky​ Catz​ - same thing​ goes for the catz,​ 09 will be big for them.​.​.​when they get that cd out.​.​.​.​femal​es acros​s the count​ry are gonna​ forge​t about​ that 20-​something-​acous​tic-​dude they used to liste​n to.

Music Box Fresno: Fashawn at Starline Video

Maybe this is a little late but you wouldn't have been paying attention if this was posted last week anyway. Last Tuesday night, Fresno's Fashawn (among others) sold out Starline on a Tuesday night. And that was with a ticket price of 18 bucks. Very impressive, since I thought the only Fresno musician that could pack a place with that high a ticket price was Patrick Contreras. Music Box Fresno: Fresno Christmas Tunes #2

Last time, Fresno's own Victory Jump provided some Christmas music for the local blogosphere. Music Box Fresno: Have a Club You Need Overfilled?

Is there a venue left in Fresno the Patrick Contreras Band can't pack-out? The band's last show at Starline had a line down the block to get in. When is the last time you saw that on Fern?

Tonight, Patrick will take a break from filling local clubs to be on 90.7 KFSR sometime from 6 to 8. He will be helping the Fresno State station raise some money - it's fund drive time. Also, if you haven't finalized your New Years Eve plans yet, Patrick has an idea for you.

Music Box Fresno: Random Videoness

Because Fresno music is underrated, under promoted and simply awesome, we needed a segment to humbly help promote the Fresno music scene: Music Box Fresno.

So, a few videos related to some of Fresno's more important bands have popped up the past couple days. One by HateFX and one by Flight 409. The Flight video is from a recent appearance by the band on local radio station, Alice 96.7. HateFX's video is another sneak-peak-promo video for their upcoming new album.
