Hey, Fresno's Internets, Happy New Year and all that junk!

So yeah, after about seven or so years of blogging about Fresno in some shape or another, I decided to get a logo. Thanks to some other local Internet nerd named "Bryan" for the help.

No big shits, just saying what's up and stuff. I'd like to be one of those people that say "2012 is going to be so awesome, guys! Can't wait to show you all the new stuff we have in store for you!" Yeah I'd like to but really it's going to be the same crap. We try, at least.

Yep, expect posts about local music happenings - blended with some Dorktowns and random Fresno stuff - to dominate as always.

I wish it was like the old days, before Twitter and Facebook, when blogs ruled and there were more posts here. It's not. And yeah, blaming Twitter and Facebook is a cop-out, but there it is.

It's cool, I still like hanging out here - quiet as it may be. As always, thanks for reading.

Fresno Bee: Less Fresno Than Ever Before!

Over the past 10 years, it's always been a bit scary when you hear "Changes are coming to The Bee." Sadly it's never "We added more reporters, more sections and more columnists!" Quite the fucking opposite, actually.

Such was the case Monday as the Fresno Bee announced the inky version is now condensed even more. Inching ever closer to being just one section... you know, like the Madera Tribune or some shit.

The only "possitive" news (outside of the Sunday Spotlight being pulled out of the ads and put in the normal part of the paper - actually this is good) is there will be more sources of national feeds. Sorry but the only reason to read The Bee is for local stuff, we're not getting excited about national sources.

If you're going to keep us reading, we need more Mike Oz and Bill Mac. More G-Hos and Matt James (oh wait, you dumped that guy). More Asking Paula, Then & Now-ing and Word On The Street.

You know, like, more FRESNO and stuff.

Nobody In Fresno Is Happier To See Pat Hill Fired Than Fresno's 'First Dude' Paul Swearengin

If you've made friends with Paul Swearengin on Facebook, than you know this week might be the best sports week of his life. Ever since he quit his morning radio show on ESPN 1430 - no longer having to interview or look Pat Hill in the eye - he's been relentless in his frustration of Pat Hill's team.

Maybe we're the weired ones but it's... it's just gross for some reason... it's it's it's...just you know, ya got your lips all in there and your tongue and the slurping AHHHAA it's just ehhhhhhaa. *body shake* 

And not that you have control over him because we're sure he's hard to stop, but your Hairpiece on Twitter is scaring us a little too. Funny as all hell... but scary.

Balls: Councilman Xiong Suggests Grounding Ghetto Bird

It's rare when somebody suggests cutting something involving the Fresno P.D. So we gotta at least give Blong Xiong some props for that - even if you don't agree with it. And hey, if you're going to start with something, grounding the annoying-ass Ghetto Bird is a pretty good place.

Remember Fresnans: It's always a mistake to read the comment section on FresnoBee.com or on any local news station's Facebook page (we forgot this before reading ABC 30's). They always read like if Ray Appleton had a show on Sirius.

UPDATE!: Here's what Councilman Xiong said today via ABC 30's Facebook page:

"Well, I'm sure you have all heard of my motions to reduce the Police Departments overtime costs and to ground the helicopter for 1 year. Those seemed to take the spot light. There were also cost savings from the City's Fire Department, Planning Department (DARM) and Employee Health and Welfare but those don't seem to get the attention of the media. My motions can save anywhere from $2-4 million of an almost $6 mil"

 

Douchebag: Teen Asshead Steals Traffic Engineer's Bike

Have you seen this $600 Trek road bike around town this weekend? If you did, you probably saw a little teen douchebag fucknut, attached to it. Like exactly this dude about to take said bike while it was parked NEXT to the Mayor's stall:

The bike was stolen from the back of Fresno's City Traffic Engineer's truck. And yeah, you should lock your bike no matter how long you plan to leave it. But fuck that. This kind of talk takes away from the fact that this kid is a bastard.

Related: Not proud to have been beat to this story by the local TV media. But since it was Graciela, it definitely takes a bit of the sting away.

Well That Sucks: Matt James Laid Off By The Fresno Bee

Sadly the Fresno Bee is doing another round of layoffs. This one is cutting into some bone as sports columnist, Matt James, is being let go (and not replaced). Matt has done some really good work, specializing in stories you wouldn't have know about otherwise and having different takes on local sports news and personalities.

So basically the Bee Overlords are removing more original and local content, and then hoping to sell more papers. Remind us why we should keep our daily subscription again?...

Fresno: Make Your Famous Choices!

It's the only awards Fresno's internets should care about (well, there's these too), it's the Famous Choice Awards.

Voting has begun on things like bike lanes, events, sports teams and venues - all things a Fresnan should love. Here's what a filled out ballot might look like if you fucking rule:

 

Heads up: It seems you have to sign-in on Fresno Famous for the ballot to come up .... so sign-in and vote.

It's Not Just Us That Thinks Fresno Yosemite International Is Awesome, So Does USA Today

Yeah yeah yeah. Even if everybody else still calls it FAT, we now know it as FYI.

Uh huh, that's right. Fresno Yosemite International, BITCH.

And it's the bestest place to fly out of. We've talked about this.

Yes, it's more pricey than flying out of LAX, SF or even San Jose. But, there's value in it. Paying $100 or $200 bucks extra is worth not having to deal with lines, traffic, parking your car in a random lot for a week, driving three hours or more, and so on.

Regional airports like Fresno's rule and that's just what this article by USA Today said on Tuesday. The article even features FYI's Sequoia Grove.

*Surprising side note: Out of 49 commenters, so far, not one takes the opportunity to bash Fresno as a city. Nice. And rare.
