Hope you'll be in town September 6th-8th. It's going to be a fun weekend in Fresno. Fun because that's the weekend for the Fresno Urban Sound Experience. It's the 5th year for FUSE Fest and while it may be a bit bigger, the ideals are the same as year one: Showcase Fresno's diverse and talented music scene while featuring relevant venues in Downtown Fresno.
So. The big stuff. The reason there is a festival at all. Let's take a look at the lineup for Fresno Urban Sound Experience #5! Because FUSE Fest has no headliners, this is in no particular order:
That's a large helping of Fresno music. Lineup is supject to change (such is life). But it's looking damn special so far and we cant wait to see it all in Downtown Fresno, Friday and Saturday September 7th and 8th.

The dates have been decided, local music festival the Fresno Urban Sound Experience is happening September 6th, 7th and 8th this year!
Like last year, there will be two nights (and some day time stuff too) of music. There is also a new third night, a special preview night, during September ArtHop (that's Thursday night the 6th).
There will be a nice mix of new and returning venues this year. Frank's Place at Warnors will return as will Fulton 55 and Tokyo Garden. And there is a nod to year-one as the old Milano's (now the Fresno Brewing Company) returns, plus a couple new spots you'll find out more about later.

F.u.S.E. Fest Week is finally here! Been waiting for this all year. Friday night it begins and Saturday it all goes down. More than 30 bands, 9+ DJs, food, drinks, Fulton Street, all ages fun, adult fun, walking, partying, discovering, all that stuff and more.
To get you late comers up to speed... This is the third year of the Fresno Urban Sound Experience (F.u.S.E. Fest). A showcase of Fresno area music talent and a showcase of Downtown Fresno.
It started because some writer somewhere came back from other valley music festivals and said "Why doesn't Fresno have this!?" So this one guy plus some other Creative Fresnans and music folk said "Well, let's make this happen in Fresno then."
So F.u.S.E. Fest was born. And rather than do the setup-a-stage-on-the-mall thing, the powers that be felt it would be cooler to use existing downtown businesses as venues/stages. Sorta like some other festival does. And, if possible, make it walkable. Kinda like the energy that comes from the Tower District's Rogue Festival.
The First year accomplished those goals. Using three venues (Cafe Corazon, Smokehouse and Milano's) with nice success. It was small, but it was cool. And more importantly: it happened.
Year two couldn't be accomplished the same way because two of the previous venues closed. So, F.u.S.E. Fest went where downtown told it to: Club One, Joe's Steakhouse, Hero's Sportsbar, Smokehouse and the Spiral Garage (yes, a parking garage - it was way more awesome than it sounds). Again it was a success. Not tear-down-the-goalposts success, but still nice.
So now we're here at year three. This Saturday. And this year Downtown Fresno told the F.u.S.E. Festival "Fulton Steet is where you need to be!" Referring to the new KYNO/K-Jewl building. The Fulton Street Project at Warnors with the Star Palace and Frank's Place. The new Iron Bird Cafe. And, of course, what is now a F.u.S.E. Festival tradition: Tokyo Garden (the only venue that's been involved in all three festivals).
There are lots of little and big details to get out, which we'll be doing here all week, just to get you geeked up for this as much as we are. Details like where and when the bands are playing, pre-party news (Down Word is playing Friday at the Lamp Post), the interesting food that'll be available to enjoy and what tricks some of the musicians might have up their sleeve exclusively for their F.u.S.E. performance.

We are a week away from the Fresno Urban Sound Expierence, Fresnans. As us whitey Fresnans like to say "It's going to be EPIC!" Yes, next Saturday will be one that downtown Fresno will soon not forget. But that's all for next week. This week. This week there's stuff going on too. Nice stuff. Dare we say... epic stuff. Friday in particular is filled with epicness.

STARLINE: Fifteen years ago, latin, hip hop and rock music fused together to form: Ozomatli. They are celebrating that day of birth with all of you tonight. You all that go to see them that is. Are you ready for these guys Fresno? ... cause they were askin' and stuff.
FRANK'S PLACE: This is a future site of two F.u.S.E. Fest stages. Current site of a show with the Boston bred punk band: Street Dogs. Plus, Devil's Brigade, a side project of Rancid's Matt Freeman. And you've got Celtic punks Flatfoot 56 and Continental (Rik from DKMs ). This looks punkish in nature and is an all ages event, kids.
AUDIE'S OLYMPIC: We were telling you about this yesterday. Three very very good bands. All three playing, Strange Vine, Stone Foxes and We Barbarians. Best $6 you'll spend all weekend:
KUPPAJOE: A CD release show for Dawn Defeo. A comback show for Gracekelly. And just normal killer shows from Heroes Are Forever, Levi The Poet and the United Kingdom version of Super Hero.

We are under two weeks away from Fresno's biggest showcase of local music talent, the Fresno Urban Sound Expierence Festival - 2010. There have been some recent announcements about the Saturday, October 23rd Downtown Fresno fest.
1. The DJ venue will be the Star Palace. It'll be all ages and partying into the wee hours of the festival. The lineup is...

2. The stages for the bands have been announced too. Fulton Street, around Warnors Theatre, plays a big part. The stages are:
3. The Friday night pre-party venue is at the Lamp Post (21+). Music lineup for that night still forthcoming.
4. A Facebook event page has been setup, let's crank up the "maybe" count. There's nothing that makes you feel more important than telling somebody "MAYBE I'll come out to your little event, if I find the time and I remember."
5. Heads up on the local media coverage: Over the next two weeks you'll see and hear some F.u.S.E. related stuff on KFSR, KYNO, KJWL, CentralValleyTalk.com and more. Plus this morning, at 11:00, a couple F.U.S.E. team memebers will be out at the fair and on KSEE 24's "Central Valley Today" along with F.u.S.E. 2010 band: Espacio - they're really gonna blow the ass off the Fairgrounds.
6. If you're one of the rare Fresnans that likes to get your tickets early, there are pre-sale ticktets up now at Fulton Street Project.
October 23rd should prove to be a great day for local music and Downtown Fresno!

Hey folks, check out who's NOT at Frank's Place as previously, BUT at Neighborhood Thrift Cafe, tonight: rock trio: Girl In A Coma. They're out of Texas. They play the rock. And they've got a lot of good press floating around with folks saying things like:

Also on the bill is Lallapalooza vets, Gringo Star, plus "Victorian punk" female trio: Agent Ribbons. Sounds like a good reason to be downtown in the Tower District tonight. Neighborhood Cafe doors open at 8. Tickets are $8. Show is 18 and up.

KUPPAJOES: Not sure who does the fliers for Kuppajoe but they're always sweet. Well, as the sweet flier tells us, tonight is Sing The Body, Achievement House, Troubled By Insects and Jeffrey Conway. Plus all kinds of artwork! [7:00 $6]
AUDIE'S OLYMPIC: Tribute bands are always fun, especially when it's an all female tribute. Tonight that would be Zeppelin tribute band, Zepparella. Plus the local and very good, Gypsy Cab. [9:00 $12]
BABYLON: It shall be a night of metal and it shall be good. With, Azazel, Obsidian Seraph, Good Time Addiction, Remnants of Man, and War Starts Sunday. [7:30 $10]
STARLINE: It'll be interesting to see how well a band like Fierce Creatures, that has a lot of fans under 21, draw at the now 21+ only Starline. Well, Argyle Pimps should help with that:
CYC: It must be some sorta punk rock thing or something, but it seems like a lot of of International acts come through the CYC. Tonight, French band Baygon Vert - geez, I hope they don't just look around Chinatown and think "This is it, Fresno?" Hopefully Your Hero Is A Villain will tell them what's up. TOKYO GARDEN: Cool, One Night In Tokyo #2. It's another fundraiser for Creative Fresno's Mural Project. This one has a nice little mix of music with Bicicleta, Almost Winter and Love Pollution. More info is here. And here:

Love The Captive keeps forcing folks to pay attention to Frank's Place, with the continuing streak of buzzy acts they bring through. Tonight's attention goes to William Fitzsimmons + Rosi Golan.
Who is Rosi Golan? Is Rosi a boy or girl name? In this case it's a girl's name. Rosi is an Israeli born singer songwriter but grew up in Los Angeles. It's been said she has "dark melodies and a voice that draws you in, but still haunts you the next day." Spooky.
William Fitzsimmons has beard that will haunt you the next day. He is compared to Sufjan Stevens, Iron & Wine, and the late Elliott Smith.
Mike Oz says William has "hauntingly evocative songs"... no idea what that means, but you should probably go to Frank's tonight and find out.

Love The Captive brings yet another Pitchfork approved act to Fresno: Memoryhouse. This one is from Canada and... awww, what a cute little couple. They seem to be big on visuals during their performances so it'll be interesting to see what they do at Frank's. Fresnans. You can save yourself five bucks right now and get some advanced tickets to Wednesday's Fierce Creatures and AVI Buffalo show at Frank's Place. Great lookin' show for the indie music crowd or, hell, fans of good music.
Local indie fans and Fresnan readers should be full aware of Fresno's own Fierce Creatures. Really good stuff and they will be heading to L.A. soon to show So Cal what's what.
If you have been following the national indie scene you may know Long Beach's AVI Buffalo as well. Pitchfork finds them graceful beyond their years, they've opened for Modest Mouse, totally heard them on Sirius XMU the other day and they're on Sub Pop Records.

There's a new venue this week and it nicely, albeit inadvertently, fills in for the quickly defunct party pad, The Captive (somebody musta squealed). Wonder if the Neighborhood Cafe can muster the same kinda buzz/controversy that the outside of its wall did a little ways back there. Looking forward to finding out.
Also interesting this week will be to see if a glam metal crowd can do a better job filling Frank's Place than the previous indie rock shows have.

Not only is it a night of Fresnan music at Audie's, but it's also a night of touring music at Frank's Place. German/San Diego girl Maren Parusel makes a stop in Downtown Fresno. She plays "sweet, piano driven music" that reminds folks of Cat Power and the likes.
Hey, also, Flagstaff indie/folk rockers, The Wild Complete, will be making that long desert drive from Flagstaff to Fresno. Holly shit, have you ever done that drive? In the Summer? Nasty, my friend, pure driving nasty. It is probably the worst drive there is. So buy them a cold one for the effort.
And let's not forget, there's a dude/band from Fresno playing: Marlson Bruegen.

It's a damn good weekend to be in Fresno. Maybe not for Coney Island fans. But for Fresno music fans, many interesting shows and there are tough choices to make on both Friday and Saturday. Hope this helps ya decide.

AUDIE'S OLYMPIC: Wow, very cool that Fresno legends, MoFo Party Band, are out there making new music. They have a new album out "Low Down" and they're partying for it tonight. Audie's is the place to end up tonight, that's for sure. [9:00 $10]

Well hey, maybe you didn't miss the Fierce Creatures EP release party last night, cause a lot of Fresnans were there. Lucky things didn't work out at The Captive, as was originally planned, because they would have been turning most of Tuesday night's crowd away. So very awesome that there is a place like Frank's Place to fill in (even if last night didn't happen to have booze - normally it does, don't worry).
