Eat These Tonight: Tacos

Wanna bet Colorado Springs doesn't know how to do a Taco Throwdown? Yeah, these are the kind of things that make Fresno cool. It's Taco Truck Throwdown #2, happening again at The Chuk. The Beehive has all the details cabbage on the event.

Basically, you go to a Grizzlies game and a taco truck fight breaks out. It was wildly successful last year so getting there at 5:30 might not be a bad plan - plus you get to see batting practice...if you're into that sorta thing.

New Music Tuesday: Restaurnaut "FUSEcore"

Just in time for Fresno Urban Sound Experience #5, Restaurnaut is getting way ready for his FUSE performance (6:30 at Fresno Brewing Company, Saturday Sept 8th) by releasing a special FUSE inspired EP called "Friendcore Applecore Horseycore Forevermore".

In Town Tonight: Chiefs

It really saddens us to promote something that is partially going on in Clovis. But this involves craft beer and biking so we have to swallow our pride and post:

New Belgium Brewing and I Bike Fresno are helping BC's Pizza & Beer, Michelangelo's Pizzeria and Spokeasy Public House with this cool three-day event. Clovis still sucks.

In Town Tonight: Typical Thursday Night Kickass

Like it. It's seems Fulton 55 is opening things up a bit. Doin' some punk action, we see. Big Sexy Anus Kings are playing... wait. That was supposed to be seperate. Big Sexy and Anus Kings yes AND Anus Kings are playing.... Anus Kings. Plus the return of Fresno's Beastmaker and maybe the first time It'll Grow Back plays F55 we thinks:

Audie's Olympic. Fresnan Sahab, Mondo Deco (Sac-town glam) and Style Like Revelators (Fresno bluseyrock).

The CYC. Kayo Dot is a "compositional/avant rock band" out of Brooklyn. Wreck & Reference is "experimental drone" music from Los Angels. Strawberry Jam (Fresno) and Ovarian Office... isn't playing, but Eindrah (Fresno) is taking their place so it's cool:

Video Dump: Patrick Contreras "Rise & Fall"

Patrick Contreras has been doing some interesting stuff with his violyn lately (not a euphemism) and incorpirating some dub-step style into his music:

Check him out on the Fulton Mall this Saturday playing during the Fresno Chile Festival at 7pm under the Clock Tower. He'll also be at FUSE Fest on Saturday, September 8th, at Frank's Place at 10pm.

New Music Tuesday: Light Thieves - Reptilian Shape Shifters

Maybe Fresno's hottest band right now is Light Thieves. The experiemental art-rockers have released their first EP and are having a record release show at the Pacific Southwest Building to celebrate.

FULTON 55: Four classically trained musicians, whom happen to be sisters that were raised in an artist colony, will make for a interesting night at F55 tonight. They are called SHEL and we advise you to check them out:

THE CYC: Something musically nowhere near the Fulton 55 show. So-Cal hardcore from Ten Thousand Leagues, Lyburnum and A Modern Loss. Plus Stockton's A Place Called Home, Fresno's Grow and Cabin Fire:

Southern Cali reggae and hip-hop act, UpRooted. Plus Papafish (so-cal ska) and local backing from Checkered Past and The White Glove Service.

FULTON 55:

They come all the way from England. They've played their Brit alt-indie rock with the likes of the Silversun Pickups and Vampire Weekend. They are Animal Kingdom. They are playing with Atlas Genius from Australia - we've heard that's very far from Fresno too.

TOKYO GARDEN: We have only three weeks left until we geek-out on FUSE Fest #5! This show isn't part of the main festival but it is put on by the Fresno Urban Sound Experience. It's show one in a series of shows that will raise money to make an album of Fresno bands covering other Fresno musician's music. Cool stuff. This Friday at Tokyo Garden, FUSE Fest (you know, the folks with the big local music festival coming next month) start a series of shows. They are to help fund an album idea that FUSE has been kicking around for a few years. The idea is to have Fresno bands cover a song from another Fresno band. Record it. Make an album. Kick local music ass.

Sounds cool to us. Friday's local acts playing in support of this Fresno comp' idea is
