BANDGEEK!: What Does Let's Go Bowling, The Soma Holidays and Bang Tango Have In Common?

Yet another fruitful weekend of music for Fresno. Sure hope you have Saturday morning to recover because Friday is going to be rude. Let's BANDGEEK!:

FRIDAY

FULTON 55: It's not often that one of Fresno's top bands of all time, Let's Go Bowling, plays so this one moves from a show to a EVENT:

AUDIE'S OLYMPIC: If you like the Fay Wrays, then you probably like (or will like) The Soma Holidays. That's 'cause The Soma Holidays are kinda the Fay Wray's grandad... or something. It's a big reunion show for the Holidays (we told ya about this, complete with free mp3 downloads) because it's been seven years since they've played together. Keeping the stage warm for them is Achievement House, The Red Coats and straight from Portland (via Fresno and Nashville) is Kat Jones. Good times. [$8, 9pm, 21+]

BABYLON: Diehardz Music presents The Accident Experiment (with Marcos Curiel from P.O.D) Also doing stuff is Down Word, Outside the Wire, Clockwork Hero (Stockton), Kinship, and S.K.O.P.E:

KUPPAJOE: Sacramento alt rock guy, Josiah James. Plus Quiet Science (Merritt Island, FL), Omotola and My Beautiful Surrender. How terribly awesome is this flier?:

THE CYC: The promoter wisely put an early start time for this one as there are a dump load of bands playing: Brotherhood, Limits, Phoenix Emerge, Head Over Heals, Fatty Cakes, Dependence and Lover Boy:

THAI PALMS: Homegrown Fridays returns with a familiar face: This Planet Prelude. Plus I Do Not Exist and No Cause For Alarm:

STARLINE: It was the late 80s (or maybe early 90s) and Bang Tango was a band. That played. Music and stuff. Well God bless them they're still doing it, and frankly...Why the hell not!? Locally supported by Six Day Truce, Hammerdown Sindrum and Tipsy Gipsy:

Fresno Merch Of The Week: Brand New Capitol Punishment T-Shirts

If you don't know who Capitol Punishment is or what they mean to Fresno's music history, make sure you read this. Pioneers in Fresno's punk scene, they played in and promoted some of Fresno's most legendary shows. Respect.

Now you can walk around town and at least look like you respect Fresno's music history by buying these brand new Capitol Punishment t-shirts. Bad. Ass.

By the by, Dale and Jocey, from Capitol Punishment, are still around supporting Fresno's music scene and even playing original music - just not punk music anymore.

New Music Tuesday: The Soma Holidays

Alright so it's a bit of a cheat for this week's NMT, it's going to be in the "new to you" category. Actually these songs by The Soma Holidays may not be new to you. They were maybe Fresno's biggest indie rock band, back seven or so years ago. Then one day they broke up. Rock and Roll.

Well lucky for Fresno, the dudes that played in the band are still around and are getting together Friday night at Audie's Olympic for a big reunion show. It shall be epic.

So we thought we'd put up some Soma for you now. You know, 'cause blogging wasn't really a big thing back when they were out so there isn't much Soma Holidays music around for folks to listen to.

We've got three tracks for you. All off their "Two Recordings" album. The first one is called "A.M. Radio" and was made with the original lineup. Download or just click: amradio.mp3

Second track is called "Get Yor Licks In Quick" and was made with the second lineup: getyorlicksinquick.mp3

Third track, "Miss Carmichael" is actually a track that could only be found on the limited edition of the album and was one of the last things the band did: misscarmichael.mp3

All these songs will be played Friday (with the matching lineups) and there will be some CDs available. It's going to be a great time, see ya out there.

Thanks to some person's Facebook post (guess Facebook is good for something every once in a while), we found a cool video about the famous Rolling Stones concert at Ratcliffe Stadium. NOOOO we weren't old enough to be there, just heard about it and junk.

It's happening Saturday and Monday. If you've got the cash you should definitely go out and show Fresnans can support stuff. Very cool event to have in Fresno.

New Music Tuesday: Kady! Danger "The Open Road"

Maybe it's the keyboards or the catchy pop sounding choruses, but Fresno's Kady! Danger feels different than the typical hardcore rock band. A little more accessible than the average band of their type. Fresno has a talented and healthy hardcore scene that largely goes unnoticed by those 20 years and up. Maybe Kady! Danger can be a somebody that opens the door so older Fresnans will start listening.

Do This: Fill Out A ValleyWho Bracket

This ValleyWho thing by those Beehivers is genius. Like Fresno Famous said yesterday, we're pissed we didn't do this first. But, then again, it looks like it was a lot of work so screw it. Congrats, Beehive.

If you haven't figured it out yet, ValleyWho is a tournament modeled after the NCAA basketball tourney (Go Lady Dogs!) except college basketball teams are replaced by local celebrities. Everyone votes to try and get their picks moved on. Cool shit.

Before we throw our stupid opinions out there, we give a solid fist bump to the Beehive for putting this out there and creating a balanced-as-you-could-realistically-get bracket. That said, we would have like to seen Tony D, Tom Flores, Famous Whitewater, Margie Wright, Henry Ellard and the Guitar Playing Sign Twirller at Shaw & Blackstone up in there.

Some other things we feel like being a dick about:

• Anthony Taylor a 13 seed? Seriously? That's some friends propping up friends stuff right there. Only us local Internet nerds know Taylor and we don't think he's even been around Fresno for very long, has he?
• Parker (a 16 seed) going up against William Sorayan is worrisome. The Grizzlies are going to rally around this and probably bump Bill out in the first round. Sadness.
• Graciela will likely be battling Bubba in the second round. Too damn early for tough decisions like this. That goes for other second round problems like Seaver vs. Radka and Tark vs. Laval.
• Crazy Bernie is in this? Hasn't he only been around a few months? Plus, the creepy as hell picture of him on his sign and billboards insures that we will never buy furniture in that fuckers place, ever.
