Tonight @ Fulton 55: Strange Vine, Poor Man's Poison and The Growlers

A nice fatty show at Fulton 55 that folks have been waiting for a bit. Upper tier Fresno band, Strange Vine. Playing with the very good Hanford dudes, Poor Man's Poison. Then you add rising psychedelic surf rock band from So Cal, The Growlers. Solid show. Tickets here (if you didn't win them from the Beehive).

Focused On Fresno: Maybe The New Starline Sign Is Cool

Not sure if somebody talked about this somewheres but we noticed Wednesday night that Starline has a new front/facade/sign. Gone is the gritty punk flier filled frontage. Replaced by the clean all black front with a organized flier area with a nice lit sign.

Starline has always needed better signage. But still kinda miss the old one:

Tonight @ Starline: Fundraiser For Mike Lemieux

Fresno's music community gives back tonight at Starline. The show is a benefit for longtime Starline manager, Mike Lemieux.

Definitely check this really good read from the Bee's Mike Oz that tells us everything that Mike Lemieux has been going through. Simply: He was involved in a car accident (that wasn't his fault) that has now given him crippling back pain. It's so bad that he can no longer work. Add to that, he doesn't have insurance to cover treatment.

So tonight, ALL the money generated from the cover and donations is going to help pay Mike's bills.

KUPPAJOES: Sweet high-end metalcore show tonight featuring touring bands Becoming The Archetype, Inhale Exahale, To Speak Of Woods and Holding On To Hope. Nice. But it also has a Madera Ranchos band (Drag Me To Shore) - can honestly say that's the first band we've seen list themselves as being from the Ranchos. Nice flier:

TOWER THEATRE: A packed theater was the result of Fashawn being at the Tower last time. This should be the same. Even though Fash' is Fresno's, it kinda feels like a big act rolling through town now:

It's gonna be some interesting shit tonight at Fulton 55. He's My Brother She's My Sister is going to be there. Fresno's top upper crust people Fierce Creatures... they'll be there. Allah-Las and Christina Bailey too. This flier proves it, yo:

He's My Brother' has covered Fresno's internets like no touring band before them. They contacted Fresno Famous and Joshua Tehee interviewed them up. Mike Oz got familair with them. They even went so far as to contact the We Heart Fresno girls... that's going deep. If they let the Dead In 60 dudes interview them they'll hit the Fresno Quadfectta.

So the lesson here, bands, is: contact local bloggers when you're rollin' through a town and you'll get some free pub' from every damn corner. By the way, here they are doing stuff like this:

Appointment Radio: 'Brother' Luke Freeman on KFSR Tonight

Tonight, get yer radios or radio apps tuned into 90.7 KFSR as Amanda Valdez will be having a talk with one of the bestest indie music guys around Fresno: Brother Luke. He should be on around 9.

Tonight @ Fulton 55: Red Molly

 

It's probably hacky to mention that tonight's band performing at Fulton 55 is made up of three ladies. Really guys, aren't we past having to point out that it's three girls? You know, when there's a band with just three dudes we don't feel the need to do this.

That being said... There's a all female band playing tonight!! Yes, who knew girls could do things!? They're (mostly) from New Jersey yet they play bluegrass folk type of stuff. That is WAYYYY weirder than the fact that they are chicks. Yeah dude, did you see? Chicks playing instruments! What's next?

Enjoy a double set of Red Molly tonight. Show starts at 8 and drinking doors open at 7:30. Tickets are $17.

It's a two day event that starts tonight and it's all Fresno, baby... alright, well, it's in Clovis. Dammit.

Balls: Councilman Xiong Suggests Grounding Ghetto Bird

It's rare when somebody suggests cutting something involving the Fresno P.D. So we gotta at least give Blong Xiong some props for that - even if you don't agree with it. And hey, if you're going to start with something, grounding the annoying-ass Ghetto Bird is a pretty good place.

Remember Fresnans: It's always a mistake to read the comment section on FresnoBee.com or on any local news station's Facebook page (we forgot this before reading ABC 30's). They always read like if Ray Appleton had a show on Sirius.

UPDATE!: Here's what Councilman Xiong said today via ABC 30's Facebook page:

"Well, I'm sure you have all heard of my motions to reduce the Police Departments overtime costs and to ground the helicopter for 1 year. Those seemed to take the spot light. There were also cost savings from the City's Fire Department, Planning Department (DARM) and Employee Health and Welfare but those don't seem to get the attention of the media. My motions can save anywhere from $2-4 million of an almost $6 mil"
