Weekend Hangover: Coach FuManchu Looking For New Digs

Does it count as a brain drain if Fresno State Football Coach, Pat Hill, moves away to Seattle and takes the Washington position? Coach is interviewing for the Huskies job and it feels real this time.

I don't know if he'd take it though. Pat seems to like being overlooked, under appreciated and having the excuse of not having a PAC10 budget. He'd have nothing to bitch about at Washington (outside of the dreary weather). Besides, Pat has gotta know that the trite hip place for Fresnans to move is Portland, not Seattle.

Fresno's Bloggiest Moment of the Week: Turkey Day Kills Blogoshpere

Not much happened on the blogs this week. There was some old and tired Fresno bashing in the comments on a Famous post. And, there was a lot of posting about Black Friday and Thanksgiving. All of it too damn boring to be considered a "moment." Therefore, no bloggiest moment this week and you can add this post to the boring ones.

You're done with the other thing going on today and it's 3:00 p.m. You should be somewhere watching the Bulldogs on ESPN as they try to be the first WAC team to beat the Broncos in Boise - good luck with that,  Coach FuManchu.

So, the game is over and Fresno State has failed. Get Downtown to Broadway Studios after six for the Black Friday Art Show. Not only will there be Superstar Artists (that's right, s u p e r s t a r s), Malcolm Sosa (from Rademacher) and Niilo Smeds will be hanging out. Hopefully they'll bring their guitars and sing because otherwise, who cares that they're there, really?

Downtown is still the place to be after the art show. Just take a short walk over to Tokyo Garden to get a little dinner and drinks. Drinks so you can start getting greased up for the It'll Grow Back show. After that, sober-up by making out in your car.

Indie Tuesday: Brother Luke Releases his "Comrades"

Adding one more CD to Fresno's music collection is always a good thing.

Tonight at Starline, indie project, Brother Luke and the Comrades, are having a CD release party and they want you to be there. You only have to give up five little dollars to join in on the fun. It's An Icicle, Aspen Hollow and From Indian Lakes will highten the value.

There were times I was too busy drinking talking about the Fulton Mall and blogging, to nobody in particular, to capture everything. I'm also sorry I missed the blogger after party... real sorry.

Monday Hangover: Fresnans Give a Little Back

Good times (and drinks) were had by all at last night's Cafe Corazon benefit show at Audie's Olympic. A perfect mix of eclectic music, poetry and blog nerdness. I hope Cafe owners, Liz and Leo, come back with something real cool.

Plan is to have some video from last night up in the next couple days. In the meantime, you'll just have to make due with JT Rocket and his punk-a-fide set list from Sunday night.

Bloggiest Moment: I like it raw

Don't do it. Don't treat customers like shit if you own a business in town. Because these days, with the mighty local blogosphere, your ass will get posted about. After that, don't expect much business from the blog-savvy folk. And trust me, you want our business; we drink... a lot.

What I'm talking about is the gloriously raw post over at Fresno Famous about a birthday dinner that turned into a police party. Now THAT is a bloggie moment.

**Honorable mention this week to the Beehive and the Swede Festival. The Fresno Beehive was electric this week with its posting and comments. In particular, the Swede Fest stuff - I liked the Ghost Hunter stuff too. Nice work, kids.

A Fresgeek Weekend: Downtown Overdubing... Swede Style

FRIDAY: Go have yourself a little dinner then slip on over to Selland Arena for the Falcons game. Live hockey rules. After that, keep your ass downtown (Chinatown, specifically), and go enjoy the indie stylings of The Overdubs at Full Circle Brewery with Shayna and the Bulldog and Vincent J. Vera.

Even if you don't enjoy the music, after a couple Cluster-Fuggles, it won't matter. But you know, be safe and stuff. And enjoys youz some Friday night in Fresno, even if you don't have a Cluster-Fuggle.

SATURDAY: The much hullabalooed Swede Festival 2: Nerd Face will be showing in Chinatown (hey, back to back days in Chinatown. Sweet.). After that it's the mother of all indie-backyard-party-house-shows with some of our favorites, like Tokyo Death March and It's An Icicle.

Once the cops break that up, you're on your own for Saturday. If you don't see Fresno's HateFX open up for Five Finger Death Punch at the Crest Theatre, the Tower District is an easy choice. Do something nice and buy a friend a beer, or hell, buy a stranger one. It'll make you feel warm inside, just like the free beer will make your friend feel warm.

SUNDAY: After finding out your fantasy football team won't be making the playoffs, see a fully loaded benefit happening at Audie's Olympic. The benefit is to support Leo and Liz from Cafe Corazon. They tried opening a business in the Fulton Mall the right way and it didn't work out. Maybe a little something like this benefit can help them try again - Fresno needs these kinds of people out there, trying things.

Bootlegged In Fresno: The Sleepover Disaster

The Sleepover Disaster may have lost an early battle with Rademacher, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve to be bootlegged. This raw, live recording we took, is from a recent show at Audie's Olympic and it not only features the song "Codebreaker" (I think that's the song's name), it has some nice banter with Brian Kenny Fresno, chiming in from the bar.

Fresno Podcasters Syndicate: Dumb and Flow

The continuing effort to pimp out Fresno's podcasts brings you the latest edition of FPS.

Flowing With Famous has returned with the usual hosts: local Rock Star and local Nerd. The Fresno Metropolitan Museum was foolish gracious enough to let us podcast in the museum, WHILE IT WAS OPEN. But, it made for some decent podcast as we get into discussions about Downtown, local music stores and so forth. Listen to it by clicking here: fwf117.mp3

Also released today, the latest episode of The DUmb. Hosts "BrodieMash" and Bryan Harley bring in Will Albritton and Robert Anaforian to talk about things like the Swede Festival, KS movies, baseball and general cool stuff. Go on over and have a listen.

Apparently Wednesday is the official podcast release day because a third one posted today: The Jen and Dave Show (formally The Jaded Visalian). So yeah, it isn't a Fresno podcast, but the couple is the Valley's most prolific podcasters, and that counts for something, dammit. Listen in on Episode 124.

If you know of a podcast with a recent release I haven't gotten to yet, let me know. And yes, I am aware of the Paper Boys and Sports Dudes podcast and the Mommy Cast, but they have the mighty Bee to pimp them. They don't need my little ass.

Fresno's Chinatown: Sweded

Three reasons why this Saturday's Swede Festival is going to be awesome:

1. It's an example of the ultimate in nerd-creativeness - anyone that writes a blog can appreciate that.
2. Local bloggers like Brodiemash, Will-A, Bryan Harley and Michael will have new swedes to show.
3. The festival is happening in Fresno's historic Chinatown. Anytime a cool event like this, takes place in an under appreciated area like Chinatown, it's a good thing.
