Yes, the above-average-sized Fresno Fair is here, and that means fried food (That's it. That's all it means.) All kinds of fried stuff too. You know that one dude's booth will be there and he'll have some new fried concoction to try. No matter how weird, it's usually good.

This all got me thinking, what Fresno foods would I like to see fried? Battering them up and frying them would only make them better, right? Of course it would...

• Gnocci dish from Mike's Pizzeria.

• Motto Brew from Sequoia (wait, that would take out the alcohol - nevermind).
• Dollar skins from the Silver Dollar.
• California roll from Edo-ya, Zipangu, Sushi-n-Pop or Maroo.
• Anything from the Beerock Shop.
• Tri-tip sandwich from the Dog House Grill.
• Stockholm Royal from Veni's (might still be good without alcohol).
• Mushroom and pepperoni from Me-&-Ed's.

Indie Tuesday: Release the Rad

Today is the day when Fresno's Rademacher finally releases their new EP ERA. You'll have no problems picking it up by Wednesday because Rademacher will be playing the Pit at Fresno State at noon.

As you ready yourself for Rade's FS show tomorrow, you can listen to some indie rock tonight at the Starline with Fresno's Villano Cotti, Madera's Violet Shore, San Diego's Four Kings and Hanford's Fallen Pilot.

Five bucks. Starts at nine. Kick ass.

Patrick and 'Lola' Make A Nice Couple

If you follow Fresno's Smog City Roller Grrls, you may have noticed that (among others) Lola La Chola is retiring from skating. Luckily for Smog City, she is still willing to help promote the girls and the sport (final bout of the season coming October 11th). And promote she did Saturday night at Audie's Olympic:


Smog City wasn't the only group at Audie's Saturday: The Patrick Contreras Band preformed. This was the first time I'd seen the three piece version of the band and I gotta say I liked it better - at least for a club setting. I love seeing striped down version's of bands, especially when it's three solid musicians like the PCB has. Patrick and his mates killed it Saturday night - as usual. Patrick always makes you want to either: dance, start filming because you know you're watching something special, or climb on top of a table or bar. See what I mean after the jump...

Monday Hangover: Wake Up With A Bubba Sized Latte

Are you going to be listening today? Listening to The Bubba Show? You know, when our still-in-office-mayor, starts his fifth or sixth career? Hey, what the hell, he's not doing anything from ten to noon but drinking a latte at his Starbucks, why not do a radio show?

The Mayor's show starts at ten today and is found on 1300 am. Given KMJ is already getting scared of KYNO, I don't think Autry's buddy Ray Ray will be his first guest.

Fresno Bloggiest Moment of the Week: Dirty Sleezy Internets

Tough week to pull one definitive Fresno bloggie moment out. Let's see... maybe all the talk about Sammy coming in October? Or, Fresnans love for getting free stuff from the Internets? Blog birthdays? The Office season premier? (No, not very Fresno-ie). Maybe the fact that none of us blogged about the 21 dirty words taught to local middle school students (I tried too, but nobody would give me the coveted list).

Blog Birthdays Are Easily Forgotten

Don't you feel like crap when you forget someone's birthday and then remember a few days later? What's worse is when you then remember you talked to them on their birthday and never said a thing. Well, I wanted to save you that guilt by letting you know The Fresnan turns one today.

And like a one-year-old, The Fresnan is still trying walk, spits up a lot, sticks things in electrical sockets and isn't poddy trained. But we're learning.

The Podcaster Reporter: Flowing Again

The only thing consistent about local podcasts is that they are inconsistent. Flowing With Famous is no exception. But hey, it's back with a quick hour of Fresno talk. Here is a little bit of what to expect:

• Ray Arthur, who is Fresno's Film Commissioner. He talks about the job and promotes what the Fresno Filmmakers Forum is up too.
• Justin McAleece from Blaire Media talks about filming and doing commercial work in Fresno.

When Moshing and Stage Diving Was Cool

No other song, made by a Fresno band, has stuck with me longer than The Neanderthal's "I Like Legos, Lincoln Logs Suck". Has there ever been a better title to a song? I can still remember hearing it on KFSR, back in the day. You know, when KFSR was good all day, before they got excessively jazzy.

The following video was recorded at Fresno State's Satellite Student Union, and at the 4:20 mark, go back to 1991 and my favorite Fresno song ever:

Bootlegged In Fresno: Flight 409

Flight 409 has been on the cusp of something major for a while. (How long can you be on the cusp of something anyway?) They released an album early this year that screamed out "Play me on the radio." They have gotten some play, but not as much as they should. Fresno band greatness takes time, I guess.

Maybe the most radio-esq song from their album, We Don't Dance, is "Operator." So, those of you that know this segment, know what's next. And now, from a recent show at The Starline, is a live bootleg recording we did of Flight's: Operator.mp3

Best. Name. Ever?

I know you haven't been thinking about it, what with the Bulldogs and all, but the Fresno Falcons are only a few weeks away from starting up their Blackhawk affiliated season in a revamped Selland Arena.

So, right now, the Falcons are signing up players to fill their roster and today they made a big signing, just in name alone: Rob Klinkhammer. Klinkhammer. If that isn't the greatest name in Fresno Falcons history, I don't know what is - sorry Greg Spenrath.

Is there a better name in Fresno sports history? Bring it!
