It seems like we've been hearing, dreaming and drinking about it for years, but it's actually here: Sammy Hagar's Cabo Wabo is open in Fresno.
I've been doing a half-assed job of covering the story on this blog, but Mike Oz has been going full-ass with his blow by blow coverage. All of this adds up to Fresno's Bloggiest Moment of the Week. Now, let's drink!

Because not every person in Fresno can fit into Cabo Wabo tonight, there are a couple of other cool things to check out:
At THE STARLINE, current favorite band of The Fresnan: The Fay Wrays. I'd go just on the flier alone. Look at it over there, with its phone and power lines. So cool! The Wrays will be playing with Head Like a Kite, The Aircrash, Robopop and Brother Luke and The Comrades.
A second cool flier points out that another favorite Fresno band of mine, Victory Jump, is taking part in an acoustic show at Kuppa Joe's with Windowsill Rose, Troubled By Insects and Fallen Pilot.

Have you seen it? It's such a cool commercial and it's got Fresno all over it.
Former Fresno State and current USA softball star, Laura Berg, is in a national Nike ad (:25 and :57 mark). It's really good. So good it makes me want to become a womens softball player - that... that would not look pretty.

As reported by Rick Bentley's Goatee, KMJ 580 has bought www.newstalk1300kyno.com. A site that just redirects you to KMJ's. Why is that news? Well, 1300 KYNO is about to change their format to news talk, similar to KMJ's. So apparently, KMJ is already so scared of their new competition, they're buying up urls that KYNO might use.
Bush league, you 580 bastards. Just for that, I'm buying up websites that KMJ might want. Sites like:
Maybe this is just a prank by KYNO to get local blogger nerds to talk about their revamped format. Cool with me, I don't mind being used. Any chance I get to call KMJ "douchebag radio", I'll take.

I freekin' love this kind of Fresno news: three major Fresno bands have recently made varying levels of label deals. All the bands are solid and deserve everything coming to them - congrats to Rademacher, Mercury Bullet and The Sleepover Disaster.
Eventually, maybe their newly inked deals will help get their albums reviewed by a major music mag, like Spin.
That's what McLane High grad Aaron Espinoza's band Earlimart got last month. Hymn & Her may have got three stars, but I give Aaron's beard five stars.

Tuesday nights at Starline are a tougher sell now that school is back. The kids love them some indie rock, which Love, the Captive brings to Starline every Tuesday night.
Tonight's lineup: Fresno's I Sea You Captain, Manuel A and Style Like Revelators, Portland's Boomsnake, Turlock's Jupiter is Useless (kick ass name).
Now check this awesome video out by "I Sea You Captain" made while at work. If my local recycle guy was this entertaining, I might actually be motivated take my cans down to get the recycling money, instead of leaving them for the "overnight collectors" on garbage night.

So earlier I was worried about local restaurants surviving this economy. Well, one chain restaurant is economy proof: In-N-Out. Recently one opened up at Clovis and Herndon and it's packed, like every other In-N-Out in existence.
LOOKING FOR CABO WABO UPDATES?
Mike Oz over at the Beehive has them for ya. Now it will be Sammy's son Aaron Hagar opening with Mikey and Sam soon to follow. I know Mike will keep you updated, but we'll be doing what we can this weekend. Hopefully we'll get some video, pics and maybe a little bit of Dorktown audio.
It just all depends on the Waborita consumption.

So I know I'm hella late to the party here but, man, the economy is kicking the local guy's ass. Have gone out lately? Nobody is out there.
You can get a table anywhere. I used to always wait for a table at the West Shaw Plaza Ventana. Now you can just walk right in and pick where you want to sit.
It's like that all over and it's worrisome. Good luck to those locals still out there, trying to make a go of it. Let's hope things have bottomed out.

From now on, if you need a favor from Fresno's blogosphere, you have to come to Mike Osegueda first. With over 1000 posts and 4300 comments, Oz is now the head of Fresno's blogging family. Let's just hope he doesn't get whacked by some sorta Bakersfield blogger mafia or something.

Doesn't matter what HMac writes about, she's the most entertaining blogger to read in Fresno.

When Sammy first got kicked out left Van Halen, and the brothers Van Halen were dicks to him, Michael Anthony was there for Sam. When Mikey was pushed out of Van Halen in favor of Wolfie (Eddie being a dick again), the Red Rocker was there for Mike. Well, I guess it's Mikey's turn to be there for Sam, because Anthony is helping Sam open Cabo Wabo Fresno next Friday.
As reported by the Beehive's Mike Osegueda, 'Fresno' Wabo will be having a soft opening Friday, Aug. 29th. and Mikey will be playing opening night. Where's Sammy, you ask? Don't worry about it pal, he'll get there when he gets there. You just worry about the damn place actually opening this time.
I'm looking forward to seeing Mikey in Fresno and I'm very curious about what he'll be doing without Sam there. I'm thinking he'll be playing with the house band. I wonder if those Fresno old dudes legends Mr. Rude are available...
