After Thursday night's preview of Rogue, The Fresnan officially has a boner for this year's Rogue Festival.

Thursday, the Rogue Festival begins. All the shows are cheap (unless you count this), but tonight's kick-off has some free stuff. Info from the Rogue site:
From 5:00PM - 8:00PM, Ashtree Studios will be hosting singer, poets and comedians, including: Party of One, Mia Paschal, Pieter Moerdyk, Liesl Garner, Avigdar Adams, Acoustic Highway, Tony Imperatrice, Mahzjai, and Poetry and Prose.
Veni Vidi Vici’s will be serving a similar faire, but their menu also includes some dance and rock, with performers such as: Liesl Garner, Pieter Moerdyk,Mr. Marlowe’s English Class, Makeshift Champions, Annette Ash, Ellouise Schoettler, Ananka, Kien Lim, and Charlie Worstell.
After having sampled Ashtree and Veni’s, come Full Circle (Brewing) with us from 8:00-11:00 and enjoy Terry McArthur, Blake Jones, Airplane Jayne, Mia, Kien,Tony, Word Crew, Tanjora Bellydance, and Suicide Lounge.
You can also pay for some Rogue events on Thursday.

The Rogue pot is starting to boil. The West Coast's biggest Fringe [style] Festival starts Thursday, Fresno. We know South of Shaw Dude will be out in force over the next couple weeks, but will North Fresno Guy?
For those Northies afraid to go, you can just hang out here. Because The Fresnan will be going to as many Rogue events as possible and blogging about it along the way. Saturday is the big Rogue day for us. The loose plan is for the day to begin at one and end at eleven. Hopefully with several beers.

Fresno State has gone full bore national by being featured on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" program. Gee, I wonder what it will be about. Yep, you KNOW it: The Verdicts.
Luckily nobody watches Outside the Lines...do they?

Gangs now control Cuca's crapper. It's true. Just take a look at the bathroom door from Cuca's Tower District location. Love the food there, but come on guys, ya gotta at least try and keep your doors graffiti free.
But keep the Carne Asada dinners coming.

Like a good little City Blogger, The Fresnan was at the big grand opening of Downtown's Ultra Lounge 2039. Unfortunately, it was to tough to get a drink. Frustratingly tough. So we were sober and you can't give a proper review of a lounge if you're sober.
So we recommend you take a look at the Beehive for a solid review. Even if it's a sober one.

Downtown's Fulton Mall gains "ultra" status this weekend with the grand opening of 2039 Ultra Lounge.
Fresno favorites the Argyle Pimps and 40 Watt Hype will kick things off Friday night. And rumor is, Fresnan blogging rivals Fresno Beehive will be there too. Sounds like we need to show up and have a live blog war.
Also this weekend, something this Fresnan has been looking forward to: Fresno State baseball begins. Beiden Field is revamped and ready for the Bulldogs run for Omaha.

Even Portland video game nerds find time to bash Fresno. Real unoriginal bashing too...except for the use of pwn, that's a new one.
This just solidifies my belief that 98% of the Nation's snobs have moved to Portland. And at least Fresno doesn't get crazy-frozen streets. Like Portland:

Last Saturday night in Clovis, there was a DUI Checkpoint. No drunk drivers were found. Not a one.
From 8:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. Cops checked 609 cars at Herndon and Minnewawa and every driver was sober.
Either the specter of Checkpoints is truly scaring Clovisians. Or, they're just dull.

Media Nerds and actual cool people mingled at Friday's Dalloways show at Starline. The Fresno Beehive's Mike Oz, Heather McLane and Will Albritton were spotted. As too was the music/nitelife writer from the now dead "Get Out", Dave Childers. Along with local author "Art Farkus", Fresno band The Same Shape and various other Fresno musicians we're not cool enough to know.
If you spotted someone Fresfamous this weekend, or at any time, let us know!
Also this weekend, Fresno State had their own private Idaho nightmare. But baseball is coming to save the day - if they can actually get off to a decent start for once. And tickets went on sale to see the Barryless Giants play our Grizzlies. I guarantee Bonds would have found a way out of coming to Fresno if he was still with the team.

The Tower District's Starline will be the place to be Friday night as Fresno/Bako band The Dalloways release EP goodness. Fully Fresno bands The Sleepover Disaster and Aspen Hollow round things out.

Don't people realize that indie blogs like this one have no journalistic merit? We're just here, throwing crap against a virtual wall, hopin' something sticks.
Well, Late Update broke an indie-blogger code (if they can be considered indie) by doing some actual journalism related to a blog we did about the crowded Exit and the Pepper Spray. Late Update interviewed Tim Gardea - something we're to pussy to do - about the whole hullabaloo.
Tim says he didn't over-sell the show and he called the fuzz on the pepper-spray-happy security guard.
Professional journalism on the Internet. What's the point?

Cruising through cable on Sunday, I couldn't help but watch a little bit of Brewster's Millions - What? Like I'm gonna watch the pro-bowl? And lookie here, I saw me some Mayor Bubba. Alan played the color announcer for the baseball game.
I wonder if Mr. Mayor will stick around Fresno after his term is up. If he doesn't, unfortunately, there will be less Dope to deal out.
