Whether Fresno's big on the world web scene or not, this certainly was Fresno's biggest cyber-year. So, The Fresnan would like list some of the biggest Fresnet Moments of the year.
With "The Internets" being so vast, this list is sure to miss something. If it missed your week of tear-jerking Myspace blogs and bulletins about your boyfriend moving away from Fresno and leaving you without a guy for like a whole week, we're sorry and you suck.

SATURDAY: Victoria's Kings of Salmon come to town to 
faceoff against the Falcons of Fresno at Save Mart Center.
Elsewhere in town, what may be Fresno's longest running band, Let's Go Bowling, skas-up Club Fred.

Hope all folks on the Valley Floor got what they wanted or simply had a good Christmas. It was good here in Fresno, the fog on Christmas Eve made for a quiet night. But, it provided plenty of cover for graffiti taggers. Yes, my neighborhood was tagged on Christmas Eve...I need to move.
Other odd Christmas related Fresno neighborhood stuff: Can you tell me what the lighted Christmas display of a crossed out L (in the picture below) means. It's at a house in the Tower District on Linden near Floradora. Do they simply not like L's? Are they anti Linden? No Losers on Christmas allowed? Lutherans suck? What?

Yes, every year I go out shopping at the last second and every year I say "What a dumbass!"
I poked my head in the West Shaw Toys R Us on Saturday to see whats what. Every register was open with a good six or seven people deep (pictured above). Thankfully, I didn't have to buy anything.
Did you have to buy something at the last minute? How big were the lines and how were the Fresno folks treating each other?

Well, if your shopping is actually done, you have no excuse to not be at Woodward Park this weekend. Woodwardstock 2 is going on with Fresno bands like An Attempt to Reason and Carving Sunsets. Hardcore in the open air of Woodward Park; man I hope it gets loud enough to piss off Northeasters in the area.

Nothin' like a good kick in the cookies to start your morning. So Fresnans, like myself, open up the front page of the Bee Thursday morning to find out the Tower District's Lauck's Bakery is closing. The rent has become to damn much.
This just kills me. One of my top Fresno childhood memories is regularly going down to Lauck's with my mom and getting a free peanut butter cookie. Damn those cookies were good.
Sad stuff man. Tower landlords better watch it. Yes, like Bethany Clough's article says, even with higher rents, the Tower District is still lower than North Fresno. But it could get to a point where local start-ups won't be able to afford Tower and you'll be left with more Starbucks, Dollar Stores and Blockbusters.
And they'll be nobody around to hand out free cookies.

What's the first thing you think of when you hear Pacific Northwest? White folk, that's right. That explains why Fresno retail king Gottschalks is all about the Northwest and even NorCal. Can you believe how many Gottschalks have infected the West Coast?
Do people in these other cities know they're shopping in a Fresno store? Yeah, not so fuckin' cool now, are you!?
I just want to stand outside a Gottschalks in Santa Rosa, wait for people to come out, and go "Do you know you just shopped in Fresno? YeAAh, doesn't feel so great, does it? Look at you. You feel dirty, don't you!?"

Does the Bee actually listen to its readers or something? The Fresno Bee made some subtle changes to the paper. One is moving the editorial page to the back of the business section.
I don't get that one guys. Why would you move a total local thing out of the local section and into the business section? Trying to find the logic there and...nothing.
One sweetass change in the Bee, they brought back GET FUZZY. Best comic out there and it was stupid they pulled it out in the first place - I even told them so. But, it would have been nice if they could have brought in a Fresnan's comic: Dead Days.
Oh well, one nerdy battle at a time.

Number one item over the weekend (for local internet nerds like me anyway) was the Fresno Famous flare-up.
Number two item, the Fresnan briefly lurked around the Musicians 4 Musicians event at DieHardz. Click the picture to see what toys a dork brings for charity - action figures rule btw.
I wasn't there long but long enough to see some Bevage (he hehe he, I wrote bevage), Patrick Contreras kill it (parking lot style) playing Voodoo Chile and battle FresGuitarist Trey Tosh, Crossroads style - greatest cinematic battle ever created...anywhere.

Fresno's leading website, Fresno Famous, has been having some issues lately. I'm sure the issues will be fixed in time. But the question is, Can Famous regain its cyber footing from this and Jarah taking most of the Hipster Mom and Pop feel with her?
Famous Whitewater has done a stellar job of filling in as the resident blogger/writer but it feels like he's been left all alone by the Bee Overlords.

A couple of brief weekend recommendations from one Fresnan to another...
FRIDAY: Hang out with some Young Professionals at the Fresno Falcons game.
SATURDAY: Block off a little part of your afternoon and get over to the Musicians for Musicians event happening at Die Hardz (click the flier to find out some junk about it).
Then maybe you could take in a movie cause you know how us Fresnans love us some movies. I'd like to see Juno but I don't think any Fresno theaters have the balls to show it - not that it would take balls to show it...it's just fun to think cinemas have balls. But it would still be nice if they'd showed it, ya know.

The second installment of You're Not A Fresnan Until... is a Fresno classic classic: Walking down Christmas Tree Lane. If you've lived in Fresno for some time and haven't checked Christmas Tree Lane on foot, you're missing out on a truly Fresno event.

Fresno Magazine's November issue had their Best of Fresno winners. There are an assload of categories but one stuck out: Best Local Website. Here are the results:
How did they come up with this internets insanity? Fresno Magazine says they "distributed thousands of ballots to you"...the fuckheads. Did you get one of these ballots?
Well, I guess a couple normal people must have got them because Fresno Famous made the list. (Fresno Famous is Fresno's number ONE website, just so you folks know). But Guarantee and Vino100 come in at one and three? Were the ballots handed out only to Guarantee and Vino 100 employees?
Guarantee. Dot. Com? A real estate website? What the hell kind of criteria is happening here? And Vino 100? It is a fucking wine market website! It's like voting the TV commercials for West Hills College "Best Local Television Show."
So I guess my next question is, how much does it cost to get "voted" top website?

Overall, Fresno didn't come off abnormally bad; same kinda stuff that goes on in every city. The Fresno PD came off pretty well, probably because they had power over the editing...or...they are actually not that bad? Nah, must be the editing. I'll tell you what IS bad though, this live blog.
