STARLINE: Love The Captive has all the details on this one : newish band Shiver Fox (with Trey Tosh, people) is having a EP release party, should be awesome and worth the ten bucks (Yes. Ten. Because the time has come ,Fresnans, when you're worth paying that much for a local show, dammit!). Also playing is Poor Man's Poison and Ghostly Nature. [Doors:9 Cost:$10]

AUDIE'S OLYMPIC: Fresno hardcore band, Harsh Reality, returns from an apparent long hiatus to play with Thrawtle, Born Loser and DMF. [Time:9 Cost:$10]

KUPPAJOES: Taking the headlining posistion is Hazel & Vine, K Sera, Fallen Point and My Beautiful Surrender. [Doors:8 Cost:$7]

LUCKY 13: Mike Oz at the Beehive broke the news Thursday, the Lucky 13 is closing and it's the last weekend for music, thus the last time we'll be posting about shows, like Friday's with Synezra, Hot Shade, Blackbird and This Planet, Prelude. [Start:8 Cost:$6]

CLUB RETRO: Has The Thomas Confession, Once Upon A Saturday, Just Another Miracle, Antidote For Anxiety and Beautiful Assault. [Doors:7 Cost:$8]

Fresgeek Weekend: Caged Elephants, Down Words And Lost Rebellions

We've already heard about the awesome SwedeFest #4 at Starline on Saturday. And the creative blending that will be happening at the Silver Dollar on Friday. 

But bandwise, what the Fresno is going on?

FRIDAY

AUDIE'S OLYMPIC: Exene Cervenka. No she's not a Czechoslovakian skater. She used to be head punk of the band X. But now she is older and that means she is much less punky and much more folksy. [Time: 9 Cost: $10]

TOKYO GARDEN: The Rockabilly of Motel Drive will be the headlining and Jailbreak's... will not be. [Start: 9 cost $5]

KUPPAJOES: Rolling into town is the "Lost Rebellion Tour" with The Wedding. With A Current Affair, I Am Empire and Old Man Shattered. [Doors: 7:30 Cost $10]

LUCKY 13: This club is getting back into the rock of things with the Dirty Sanchez and some other bands... we assume. [Time: 10 Cost: $5]

THE REVUE CAFE: We believe this to be the second time there is live music happening at the Revue? Yeah? The more venues the better, we say. Apparently playing is Brother Luke, Jonah and the Whale and Malcolm Sosa. [Time: 8 Cost: Free - All Ages]

STARLINE: It's a rocking CD release party for that one dude, Keeney. Playing along is Dislodic, Medium, The Disconnectors, This Midnight Scene. [Doors: 8 Cost: $6 - All Ages]

SATURDAY

The nationally surging alt/indie/southern rockers Cage The Elephant are playing Audie's Olympic. These guys have a huge song out right now [Aint No Rest For The Wicked] that's all over the place, so it's awesome to be able to catch them in a smallish club setting (even if it is on a Sunday). One More Day To Let Your Inner Film Nerd Run Free

If you don't know about this whole "swede style" of filming and how it's very unrelated to your Swedish nanny, please check this out and watch this. We'll wait till ya get back.

Alright, lets move on: You have one day left. One day to swede something and give it to the Dumb Drum guys so it can be shown at Saturday's SwedeFest #4 happening at Starline. You may not think a day is enough time to make a movie, but when that movie is a sweded version of a movie/TV-show/whatever, one day is plenty of time to shoot and edit something. And hell, if you do a single-shot swede, you really don't have to even edit, just burn it to a DVD.

To show you how quick and how goddam stupid you can get with your sweded film, we have something we did a few years ago to put forth as an example. 

Side note: This was before such things were branded as a swede style film or video and it's extremely nerdy. We promise that you will be less cool after watching.

Indie Tuesday: The New Limb, Greener By Color and Ballad: The Memory

 

Just in case you haven't had some 'weeksauce' yet, we thought we'd let you know what kind of indieness Starline has in store for you tonight. 

Orange County band The New Limb is stopping by Fern Street to play for us Valley folk. They have a relatively new video for "Breath Tenderly" you can watch here and one for the song "Autumn Leaves" you can watch now:

Also playing is DJ Ghostly By Nature, Fresno's own Ballad The Memory and Greener By Color. In case you don't know Greener, Conlan has five questions that you may have not thought to ask them.

Indie Tuesday: Fresno's Indie Bands Get The Night Off

Hey, look at the flier. Notice anything? No Fresno bands playing Starline tonight. Normally we wouldn't like this but, actually, it's nice to see some different names. At least there are a couple of Visalia bands to bring a valley presence: X Out My Eyes and Velvet Velvet Velvet.

Fresgeek Weekend: CD Release Parties and Last Shows

Yep, that Fashawn show at the Tower Theatre is going to be huge - we're very curious on how packed that big'ol theatre will be Saturday.

But that's not the only thing going on this weekend. Music fans of Fresno, let us Fresgeeeek!:

FRIDAY

AUDIE'S OLYMPIC: Bueno bueno, it's Los Creepers headlining with Los Muertones and Rites Of Retribution not headlining. [Time: 8-ish Cost: $7]

CYC: This place always a lot of bands on one bill and most with fucked up names like: Necrowizard. And then there are others like grindcore-ers Despise You, Crom, Too Many Screaming Children and so on. [Doors: 6 Cost: $7]  

STARLINE: Rockers Stoneshiver are playing their last show ever (ehhh that's what they all say) and they are bringing Space Hooker and Dislodic along to help play them out. [Doors: 8:30 Cost: $5]

KUPPAJOES: All ages are welcome to enjoy the young indieness of Phall Of Phariss, Brand Michael Hermann, Colour and Reggie Gin. [Doors: 7:30 Cost:$6]

THE REVUE: Songstress and probable heart-breaker Abigail Nolte with be preforming with some art being show and poets doing what they do, it'll be a whole... thing, called "Across The Pond".

Indie Tuesday: Heathens To Rock Fresnans

Don't let the "indie" tag we place on these Tuesday posts fool you into thinking it's always just indie-rock at Starline on Tuesdays. Indie can also just mean independent style bands that just plain-ass rock or hip-hop, folk, metal and yes, indie-rock.

Such is the case tonight with indie-alt band Heavy Young Heathens, a band that has two brothers from Fresno - at least that's what we're told. Joining the show are rock/hip-hop fusionists Malbec [LA] and Australian dudes St Leonards.

Indie Tuesday: The Wooden Birds, Picture Atlantic, Greener By Color

All kinds of nice acoustic-y music (Is there such a thing as mean acoustic-y music? That would be awesome) will be happening tonight at Starline with The Wooden Birds [Austin, Texas], Picture Atlantic [San Jose] and Greener By Color [Fresnans].

Indie Tuesday: Style Like The Dumb Fresnan You Are

Tonight's the night to go out and celebrate being dumb with your fellow Fresnans (Yo!) by watching some Silverlake smarties called Kid Kosovo. They play "happy hardcore". We don't know what that is either, but they sound good to us. Ghostly Nature and Style Like Revelators will also be there being Fresno dummies. It's happening at Starline, doors at 9 and the cover is $5.

FresGeek Weekend: There's re:FUSE Fest and... other stuff

Gezzz this is just an insane music weekend. Think it's safe to say the biggest of the year. If you're a fan of live music at all, we sure hope you're in town because there are many things going on, biggest being re:FUSE Fest. Yeah, full disclosure, we helped a little putting this year's festival on so we're pretty biased when suggesting FUSE is where to be this weekend (full re:FUSE post later), but we don't want to ignore the other music-y things going on.

But before you head out there this weekend, you better watch out for Zombies roaming Fresno. If they want your brain, let them have it - you wouldn't want to be rude.

AUDIE'S OLYMPIC: Oh boy, Strange Vine is doubling up this weekend because before they play re:FUSE Fest Saturday, they play Audie's tonight with Rademacher (yeah they just played last night, so what) and headliners from the Bay: The Mother Hips. [Time: 9ish Cost: 12]

CYC: Rock will be at the center with touring band I The Fake with Fresno's Descend Factor, Mercury Bullet and Dislodic. At least the weather is nice so the lack of AC won't kill ya. [Doors: 6 Cost: 7] 

STARLINE: Lance Armstrong has proclaimed this National Livestrong Dayand Fresno is taking part by having big time Fresnans play like MoFo Party Band, DB & The Struggle, Roger Perry and Patrick Contreras (that dude is everywhere this week). [Doors: 8 Cover: 10]

KUPPAJOES: Enjoy Via Coma, Greener By Color, The Thomas Confession and Giraffrica. [Doors: 7:30 Cost: 7]

FULL CIRCLE: This is a nice new edition to the re:FUSE Fest. A band showcase to get you ready for Saturday with short, stripped down sets by folks like Synerza, Blake Jones, Brother Luke, Dale Stewart, Scats On The Slyand more. Folks playing Saturday will be hanging out, drinking beer and being all networky. You can also pick up your wristband early, if you so desire. Five bucks gets you in, or just plunk down 15 to get you in for everything re:FUSE Fest this weekend. [Time: 8 Cost: 5 (or 15 festival wristband)]

But just as fun as that is the Creative Fresno backed Blender happening at Full Circle starting at 5, leading into the re:FUSE pre-party:

SATURDAY

Yes! The Fresno Urban Sound Experience festival is finally here! So pumped (more on that later)! But something also very awesome is happening Saturday and that is a performance from Lets Go Bowling at Audie's Olympic. But what's cool is, you can go to FUSE and this:

But that isn't all, there is also a D4D party at Starline and the Pink Show at the Tower Theatrewhich is a benefit for breast cancer awareness. Steve Ono, Lance Canales, Martin Viramontes and Patrick Contreras will be there (there he is again).

A van filled with LA and Portland bands will be sitting in front of Audie's tonight, those being: Spindrift, The Morning After Girls (we think) and 1776.

Spindrift has been through before and The Morning After Girls (guys, buy the way) were just here last week. One band's schedule is saying TMAG will be there, but nothing else does. Guess we'll find out tonight.

Tonight In Fresno: Pecha Kucha #4 Is UN-Stopable

That quirky designy-creative-type-people-get-to-be-stars-for-a-night thing called Pecha Kucha, returns to Starline tonight. The theme this time around is: UN. We are unwavering in our belief that Starline will be packed like it always is for Pecha, so get there a little early if you want to sit. Get there late if you want to be drunk at the bar and do some heckling.
