MONDAY HANGOVER: Annoying Dark Knights

This is a statement to half the people at the 7:30 p.m. showing of The Dark Knight at Broadway Faire on Saturday:  You guys are a bunch of jackasses!

Children were there.  Like, five-year old children.  At a hard PG-13 flick.  Babies too.  Fucking babies.  Hell, I think some woman gave birth.  And there was the laughing.  Laughing at all the wrong lines.  I've never been part of a dumber audience in Fresno before.  But, at one point, it was nice to see an usher make a texting teen put his phone away.  Of course the kid went right back to it the moment the usher left, but the effort was made.

Then, there was this guy having an utterly meaningless twenty-minute conversation on his cell phone.  It was before the previews, but still.  Everyone around him was forced to listen to the whole inane thing.  But you, you have a choice of listening to a couple minutes of it.

Oh, the movie, yeah.  It's already been said all weekend, but The Dark Knight is a near perfect movie.  Should be the first true comic book movie to get a Best Picture nod.  If a damn musical can get Best Picture, The Dark Knight sure as hell should.

Saturday Fresgeek: Free Comics live again

Two [major] things for a true Fresno nerd (yo!) to do Saturday. 

ONE:  Go to Heroes Comics and get some free shit that probably won't ever be worth anything...but hey, it's free.

TWO:  See Iron Man ALL DAY LONG, because apparently it's that good.  I suggest seeing at Broadway Faire - dammit if it doesn't beat the hell out of Edwards.

Monday Hangover - Bubba Pleeze

Cruising through cable on Sunday, I couldn't help but watch a little bit of Brewster's Millions - What?  Like I'm gonna watch the pro-bowl?  And lookie here, I saw me some Mayor Bubba.  Alan played the color announcer for the baseball game.

I wonder if Mr. Mayor will stick around Fresno after his term is up.  If he doesn't, unfortunately, there will be less Dope to deal out. 

Fresgeek Weekend - Go Bowling Fresno

FRIDAY:  If you haven't already, go out and see Juno because it took forever to get here and it looks good.  Plus it has Ellen Page in it - she's the new Nat Portman, dontcha know.  If you go see it, give us a comment and let us know what you think.

If battling Friday night Fresno movie crowds aren't your thing, go to KuppaJoe's and see one of The Fresnan's favorite local bands: Beandip.  As a bonus, you get Murdoc, Tokyo Death March and Worlds Fastest Indian.

SATURDAY:  Victoria's Kings of Salmon come to town to faceoff against the Falcons of Fresno at Save Mart Center.

Elsewhere in town, what may be Fresno's longest running band, Let's Go Bowling, skas-up Club Fred.

Fresgeek Weekend: Professional Falcons

A couple of brief weekend recommendations from one Fresnan to another...

FRIDAY:  Hang out with some Young Professionals at the Fresno Falcons game.

SATURDAY:  Block off a little part of your afternoon and get over to the Musicians for Musicians event happening at Die Hardz (click the flier to find out some junk about it).

Then maybe you could take in a movie cause you know how us Fresnans love us some movies.  I'd like to see Juno but I don't think any Fresno theaters have the balls to show it - not that it would take balls to show it...it's just fun to think cinemas have balls.  But it would still be nice if they'd showed it, ya know.

Fresno Jones: it's a wrap!

We all know about the craziness that was the new Indiana Jones Movie filming its final scenes at Fresno's Chandler Airport.  Well, now IndianaJones.com has a compilation video of all of the movie series "wraps", including - what I'm pretty...mostly sure is - the Fresno "wrap"  of Crystal Skull.  Check it.

Finding ways to give Edwards more money

It was only a matter of time before Edwards hit the ten-dollars-a-pop mark for having the privilege to sit in their movie theater.  Ten dollars isn't enough for me though, I need to impress my date by giving Edwards more cash for a flick. 

How can Fresno's Edwards theater help?

Here's what Edwards came up with:  play a non-IMAX movie in the IMAX theater and make me pay a few extra dollars for it. I'm given the same thing I'd see on the ten dollar screen, but as a added bonus, many speakers have blown tweeters, the projector sounds like a cotton gin, you have to look around people's heads to see the screen, and there's only two long lines to get snacks.

So, you do save some money by not getting a chance to buy Cookie Dough Bites and a bladder damaging soda tub.  But that couple extra bones for a ticket isn't worth all the annoyances just to see a movie on a slightly bigger screen.

Real writers strike! Bloggers? Who cares!

Without writers, Hollywood would be nothing.  So then why do writers get treated like shit?  Right now, the writers union is trying to change that.  Good luck kids.  And hey, don't get down about having to strike, your lot in life could be worse.  You could be blogging about Fresno FOR FREE.

Fresno Jones update...updated

Getting some video in of the Fresno Jones and the Kingdom Of The Westside shoot at Fresno's Chandler Airport.  It's just set pieces but, it's something.  Oh, and yes, Harrison, Lucas and Steven were all in town ...and also in town...Weird Al?

Keep us updated if you can Fresno. I'd be there all day trying to squirrel my way in there but I've got a damn day job like Heather Mclane.
