MONDAY HANGOVER: Annoying Dark Knights

Poster4 This is a statement to half the people at the 7:30 p.m. showing of The Dark Knight at Broadway Faire on Saturday:  You guys are a bunch of jackasses!

Children were there.  Like, five-year old children.  At a hard PG-13 flick.  Babies too.  Fucking babies.  Hell, I think some woman gave birth.  And there was the laughing.  Laughing at all the wrong lines.  I've never been part of a dumber audience in Fresno before.  But, at one point, it was nice to see an usher make a texting teen put his phone away.  Of course the kid went right back to it the moment the usher left, but the effort was made.

Then, there was this guy having an utterly meaningless twenty-minute conversation on his cell phone.  It was before the previews, but still.  Everyone around him was forced to listen to the whole inane thing.  But you, you have a choice of listening to a couple minutes of it.

Oh, the movie, yeah.  It's already been said all weekend, but The Dark Knight is a near perfect movie.  Should be the first true comic book movie to get a Best Picture nod.  If a damn musical can get Best Picture, The Dark Knight sure as hell should.

Monday Hangover: The Fresnets Version

Because you were to busy living your life this weekend to be checking what happened in Fresno's Blogsphere:

Tvlgfhf Swedes in Fresno:  Brodie Mash announces details for Fresno's first Swede Festival.  No, not the hot Nordic kind.  The nerdy but still cool kind.

Fresno misses it some Campos:  Not only do the Fuego apparently suck now without Campos, they don't have enough help to serve beer to fans wanting to drown their sorrows.

Was it the Best of Fresno?  Did you make it out to Englemann Cellars to catch the show?  I'm sure the Beehive did.

Fresno podcasts are still...podcasting:  We posted a new and instant classic Dorktown, while The View...Fresno countered with a local news celeb for a guest.  Let's hope his boss wasn't listening.

The Overdubs go retail:  Live music from The Overdubs while you sift through seventies knick-knacks and used shirts.  Nice.

So what did we miss?

Fresno Housepartying Rules

So we at The Fresnan were invited to a sweet Fresno house party over the weekend.  We made an executive decision to not go because we are just gettin' too old - and there wasn't going to be booze.

Looks like we really missed out because my favorite Fresno area band played.  Tokyo Death March.  Have a look at the fun that is a Fresno house party with a great band:

Monday Hangover: Last Call for the Bandwagon

ClaytonAllison I know there are Fresnans and Fresnan Bloggers out there that don't know what the big deal is.  But this Diamond Dog run IS a big deal foos and there's still a little bit of time left to get on board with the rest of town.  IF you still don't get it,  this letter to the Bee Sports Editor will say it better than I can:

Hooray for Fresno State. I love witnessing the advancement of the baseball team in the College World Series. For me, this is so much bigger than just a win on a scoreboard. I see ourselves as a community in this team. All of our grit, heart, determination and sheer will to survive is something that all of us Fresnans embody. I wish them continued good fortune as they break through walls everyone warned were too high to climb.

-Kelly Racca Clovis

The bandwagon leaves the ahh...band...wagon...station at 4:01 Monday.

Monday Hangover: Bulldogs Still Super Regional

Fresnostate 007 No matter what happens Monday night, at least the Diamond Dogs gave us a great game to watch Sunday night - unlike Saturday.  The Dogs were sloppy at times, but they gave us edge-of-the-seater fun with their 8-6 win over Arizona State

Hedstrom and Burke rocked Sunday.  Tonight's game should be a slugfest.  Check ESPN2 @ four.

An Olympic Monday Hangover

Blogger Gold On Saturday, The Fresnan nerded it up with fellow Fresno bloggers at the 2008 Blogger Olympics.  I think the pictures and video, soon to follow below, will confirm the nerdness for ya.

What the hell are the Fresno Blogger Olympics, you ask?  A gathering of Fresno bloggers competing in nerd inspired Olympic events.  Yeah baby, I don't see Portland Bloggers getting together and doing cool nerdshit like Fresno - I think it was coined as "Bloggeradarie" by H-Mac or Adam.

After the break, more pictures and video, as the day of "sport" begins at Blackbeards:

Monday Hangover: Not enough Sudz in the City

Barely used stage setup Didn't they used to give you like twenty drink tickets for twenty bucks?  It wasn't that long ago was it?  When it was held near the Water Tower, I think.  Those were the days.  Saturday, it was thirty dollars (day of) for eight little glasses of beer.  To me, what was worse: no bands of note played - sorry every blues based band in town that performed.

I suppose the thirty bones is fine if you wanted to donate to the Downtown Association anyway.  That's where the proceeds went.

The Fresno Bee's Paula Lloyd gave a great statistical rundown of Saturday's Suds in the City event - there were 4000 drinkers at The Chuck.  By the way, the Bee is damn lucky to have Paula.  I really love the stuff she writes and hope they keep upping her profile.

Monday Hangover: Saki Bombed

Fresno is getting so jammed up with places to get sushi the awesomeness of the 80's are getting involved.Grizzandsushi_007

Have you tried Sushi 80's, West Shaw, yet?  You should.  Good food, service, atmosphere, location and laser disc displays.  Other customers disagree.  A quick picture review to kinda-sorta prove our point:

Monday Hangover: A Famous Rumor

FresnoFamous.com's "Famous Whitewater" uses Fresno's downtown skyline as a backdrop to deliver some big Fresno internet news: (please excuse the darkness, aka crap camera work)

Monday Hangover: Where did YOU spend Saturday?

Images We missed a busy Saturday night Downtown.  Too busy checking out what Northeast Fresno had to offer - it offers ample mediocreness.

That wasn't the case downtown with all of this:

The Fresno Coyote's home opener at Selland.
Evelyn Glennie world renown solo percussionist at Saroyan.
Smog City Roller Girls at Valdez Hall.
Fresno Fuego soccer at Chukchansi Park.
Tattoo Expo at the Convention Center.
Switchblade 327 at Milano's.
Steve Kuykendall and Jerry with Acoustic Highway at Full Circle Brewery.
Ultra Lounge 2039 had DJ Randy Mark West.
Smokehouse had DJ Dave Harris and DJ Shake.
