Tonight, Fresno's Cabin Fire is having a CD Release Party at The CYC for their new EP "Humid City". Maybe it's not the most accessible music there is but that's all relative. We think it's as accessible as hell. In fact, we can access the fuck out of it:
Also playing at The CYC tonight (besides Fresno's Grow), are a couple out-of-town bands making stops: Mahria (Edmonton, AB) and Leer (SJ):
TOKYO GARDEN: Stopping in Fresno tonight, Olivia Mancini "Olivia writes pop songs. Upbeat, melody-driven, and not interested in being taken too seriously, Olivia-the-music is a lot like Olivia-the-person. Likable." There ya go. Go:
FROM UNDER THE RUG: A local publishing company called "From Under The Rug" is having a art & music show to celebrate the book release of The Many Moons All In Orbit, Volume II. The company itself is a collaboration book of local Fresnans who have contributed art, writing, photography and short stories. Bands playing are Mane Horse, Grow, Asian Girls, The Milford Higgins and Cinco:
You just really have to love Friday night for the good mix of stuff. Saturday you may need to just dance it out with Prince.
How bout we BANDGEEEEEK!?:
AUDIE'S OLYMPIC: Tonight's big act, Peter Case, is one of those dudes you kinda know, should know, but maybe don't. He's been around a ton of people, influenced a ton. Singer of the LA based The Plimsouls whose song "A Million Miles Away" was a big 80's hit featured in the movie Valley Girl. But he never quite got over the "big-time" hump. Seriously, check out his resume, it's quite extensive. Point is the guy is talented and shouldn't be missed. Peter will go on first at 9:30 followed by Fresno's own The Backstabbers and Third Rail Power Trip. Good stuff, Fresno. [$8, 21+]:
Check out Threat Level Rising. A new - but very old-school - punk band in Fresno. They're working on their debut album that will be out soon and have leaked some songs off of it. One of them being "Violence":
Just so we're all clear, these are things happening music-wise this weekend in Fresno. Yes, there have been better weekends, but there are still some gems if you want to look. That's what this post is here for. It's... BANDGEEK!:
The Fresnan is a blog drunk on Fresno's sweet sweet booze.
We like posting about local music and random Fresno culture junk. We like Downtown, tri-tip, South of Shaw battles, tamales and remembering when there was a fig orchard at Herndon & Palm. We like to occasionally go to River Park but tell people we never go there.
