Road trip time for Dorktown as Mikey and Bells tour the 99, 580 and 101 as they head up to Santa Rosa. Why would somebody leave Fresno to visit Santa Rosa? Beer. Pliny The Younger at Russian River Brewery, to be more specific.
Along the way there's talk of: Clovis, fog, first Fresno jobs, Bullard & Palm, Casa Corona, Pliny The Younger, beer-ride wait times, drinking, puking, Santa Rosa, sponsorship and Fonzy Eyyys.
So we have this FRIEND of ours that was going to head to a house in Clovis to watch the Buchanan display tonight. Now this FRIEND was wondering what was the quickest way to get the hell out of there once the show is over... 'cause THEY heard it was a bitch with thousands of cars battling to leave the area.
Just for our FRIEND, because any respectable Fresnan is in their driveway or at The Chuk tonight.
It's a two day event that starts tonight and it's all Fresno, baby... alright, well, it's in Clovis. Dammit.
It's 59 Days Of Code. A showcase/competition/expo to show and foster web talent in the Valley. More info is here. Event agenda is here. Check it out.
Here's a code challenge for you smarties: Make this blog look like a actual, real, professional, legit blogsite. HA! Trick challenge, it can't be done! We tried, like, at least two or three different Typepad templates and chose between several SEVERAL fonts for the header... so, you know, you can't beat that. It is what it is.
The fine folks at I Bike Fresno conducted a first for the Fresno AREA over the weekend. Yes "area" because this happened in Clovis. This first was a Bike Valet service at Big Hat Days - the only weekend of the year to even THINK of venturing into Clovis.
It seemed to go rather well. A total of 122 bikes were parked. This is what Saturday looked like. Hopefully they'll be trying it at a Fresno event soon.
Speaking of cool Fresno biking things, some new bike racks for the Tower District are soon to be rolling out to the area, Archop and I Bike Fresno are involved with that too. Gotta say, they look pretty nice:
There are 20 of them and they will be spread throughout the Tower. Sponsoring of the racks will be encouraged and will be a factor on where they're placed. Sponsoring will cost around $200.
The Silicon Valley is not the only place that has nerds smartass people that can write code. Fresno has them too. If one of these local code monkeys are your friend, you might have noticed them being a bit stressed out the past week. That's because they've probably been writing code like crazy for the 59 Days of Code event.
Saturday night officially officially began the Christmas season in Fresno with the walk down Christmas Tree Lane. People say that the Christmas display up in North Clovis is better... those people like crack too.
Sure, the Clovis one may beat CTL as a straight up light display, but nothing beats Christmas Tree Lane. Nothing. The pine trees, the nostalgia, the music, the old school string lights, the Optimus Prime cut-out... alright that one sucks, but the rest of it rules.
And now, here is some classic Christmas Tree Lane ambient sound that we captured on Saturday to solidfy our point: X-Mas Lane audio
Ya duns fucked up now, Clovis. Yes voted a new Wal-Mart in your precious and pretty North Clovis area, did ya? Finally you've realized your dream of surpassing Pinedale in amount of Walmarts. Empty Clovis retail buildings in three, two, one...
Side note: Classic Walmart shot used because that's the look we imagine when Clovis and Walmart get together.
Ahhhhh, this is so awesome... so... so awesome: The grandson of the Mayor of Clovis was arrested today for allegedly growing pot in his home. Alright, kinda crazy, but not that crazy. The topper is: the gandson was livingwith the Mayor during this.
Could you have picked a better city for this to have happened in? No. No way. Thank you Fresno Bee and ABC 30 for allerting us to this story. And, head up, Mayor's grandson, you are totally cool with us.
*Think the Clovis High pun is bad? You'd be right. Can you think of a better one?
Well no, he doesn't really. Actually, we have no idea what Lance expects of Clovis when he and his team roll into town today. All we know is, he had a nice dinner at some Modesto restaurant last night [pictured right -stolen from his Twitter feed].
Wonder where in Fresno/Clovis he'll be tonight. Do you know? Did you see him? Did you join the army? Were you one of the 25,000 plus expected in Clovis for the Amgen Tour of California? Did it kick ass and stuff?
So earlier I was worried about local restaurants surviving this economy. Well, one chain restaurant is economy proof: In-N-Out. Recently one opened up at Clovis and Herndon and it's packed, like every other In-N-Out in existence.
LOOKING FOR CABO WABO UPDATES?
Mike Oz over at the Beehive has them for ya. Now it will be Sammy's son Aaron Hagar opening with Mikey and Sam soon to follow. I know Mike will keep you updated, but we'll be doing what we can this weekend. Hopefully we'll get some video, pics and maybe a little bit of Dorktown audio.
The Fresnan is a blog drunk on Fresno's sweet sweet booze.
We like posting about local music and random Fresno culture junk. We like Downtown, tri-tip, South of Shaw battles, tamales and remembering when there was a fig orchard at Herndon & Palm. We like to occasionally go to River Park but tell people we never go there.
