Monday Hangover: Not enough Sudz in the City

Didn't they used to give you like twenty drink tickets for twenty bucks?  It wasn't that long ago was it?  When it was held near the Water Tower, I think.  Those were the days.  Saturday, it was thirty dollars (day of) for eight little glasses of beer.  To me, what was worse: no bands of note played - sorry every blues based band in town that performed.

I suppose the thirty bones is fine if you wanted to donate to the Downtown Association anyway.  That's where the proceeds went.

The Fresno Bee's Paula Lloyd gave a great statistical rundown of Saturday's Suds in the City event - there were 4000 drinkers at The Chuck.  By the way, the Bee is damn lucky to have Paula.  I really love the stuff she writes and hope they keep upping her profile.

An Earlyass Fresgeek

Since we were lame and didn't post a Fresgeek Weekend this time, we'll preview next week:

A Fresno favorite for shitfaced assholes, Sudz in the City, is Saturday May 24th at The Chuck.  Every drunk idiot in town will be in attendance...we'll see ya there.

Fresno is on high Rogue alert

The Rogue pot is starting to boil.  The West Coast's biggest Fringe [style] Festival starts Thursday, Fresno.  We know South of Shaw Dude will be out in force over the next couple weeks, but will North Fresno Guy?

For those Northies afraid to go, you can just hang out here.  Because The Fresnan will be going to as many Rogue events as possible and blogging about it along the way.  Saturday is the big Rogue day for us.  The loose plan is for the day to begin at one and end at eleven.  Hopefully with several beers.

Monday (no) Hangover: Sobriety Sucks

Like a good little City Blogger, The Fresnan was at the big grand opening of Downtown's Ultra Lounge 2039.  Unfortunately, it was to tough to get a drink.  Frustratingly tough.  So we were sober and you can't give a proper review of a lounge if you're sober.

So we recommend you take a look at the Beehive for a solid review.  Even if it's a sober one.

Sober Drivers Plaguing Clovis

Last Saturday night in Clovis, there was a DUI Checkpoint.  No drunk drivers were found.  Not a one.

From 8:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. Cops checked 609 cars at Herndon and Minnewawa and every driver was sober.

Either the specter of Checkpoints is truly scaring Clovisians.  Or, they're just dull.

A Fat Tower Tuesday

There was an assload of Fresno PD out in the Tower District for Fat Tuesday.  I don't know if that helped with crowd control or made things worse.

It felt like the amount of Police out,worked more to agitate things than to calm them.  A lot of people were sitting on curbs in handcuffs.  Personally, the PoPo were fine to me, but I'm just a bearded-nerdy-white-boy.

All the people and police gave Olive Avenue an uneasy vibe.  But if you moved a little off Olive (Starline, VVV's, Babylon), it was much different.  More like a normal weekend night in the Tower-with the exception of a long line to get into Livingstones.

Super Fat Fresday

Since you've done your civic duty, you've earned yourself a drink!   How about hitting the Tower District for Fat Tuesday?  You don't need a specific place or a specific plan - outside of an eventual sober route home.  Just get your ass down there, bounce around, and drink. 

You know, like any other night in the Tower.
