Dorktown has always been scary ... but this episode is actually supposed to be ... sort of. Episode 101 has Bells, Mikey, Producer Becky and special guest, Michael Banti, from Weird Fresno. The group talks about: haunted places in the Fresno area, an possible EVP by Michael, ghost hunting shows, Fresno UFO and ghost stories. Plus a little bit of Dorktown and Fresno business.

FULTON 55: For you Fresno youngsters out there, we can't stress enough how epic this show is. The Neanderthals were the shit in the late 80s/ early 90s around Fresno. Like ... really we can't think of a proper current local band to compare them too ... they were the shit. Time to relive the shit or experience the shit for the first time:
They are in the middle of making their first full length album and could use your help to finish it. Maybe you're thinking "Why should I help pretty people do things?" Well, as with all Kickstarter campaigns, if you back a project, you get something for your donation. And the band has some cool and creative rewards for fans.
You could get in free to every Fierce Creatures show till the end of music and time. You could have them throw you a BBQ with a personal show. You could force them to make a Swede of your choosing. Get exclusive music and shirts and all kinds of stuff. There's even something for a $2 donation. Check 'em out.
Westerns playing a FREE show at Veni's tonight. What the hell, might as well, eh? Flier is boss:
Also, the CYC hosts PA hardcore band, Wisdom In Chains (on their first West Coast tour), with Running Scared and more things you'll have to show up to find out about ... actually if you're in a band that might fit this bill, hit up Religious Appeal. [$8, 6:30, All Ages]
UPDATE (OCT 23): It now comes to us from Edward Stewart's blog that somebody in charge of the Tower Theatre building has painted over Josh Wigger's mural on the side of Palomino's. Just like that. No disscussion, it's gone. Even if they had the legal right to do this, it's pretty bad mojo to be doing that, without disscussion, to a Tower District landmark.
ORIGINAL POST (OCT 16): Went to have some dinner at Palomino's in the Tower District this weekend. Couldn't get a table though ... because the place was closed. At 7:00. On a Saturday night.
Called Palomino's earlier in the day and the phone line has been disconnected. Maybe they did a closed-because-we're-dead-when-the-fair-is-in-town thing. But there was no signage stating this or anything else.
And this POSSIBLE closing on the heels of their next door neighbor calling it a day. Plus there's still nothing open in the old Daily Planet space. Can't be easy paying the rent on those Tower Theatre building spaces.
WOODWARD PARK AMP: We'll see if Northeast Fresno can handle THIS one. Huge festival with a mix of old rock acts and a ton of local bands, plus a bunch of crazy stuff. It's the first Rocktober Fest!. More info and a list of bands can be found on the event page and below:
In case you haven't seen over at Dumb Drum or The Beehive, the Fresnans from DumbDrum.com and creators of Swede Fest made a Sweded version of the trailer for The Avengers movie and released it before the festival to get some buzz going.
They got it.
It's all over the Internet now (like, the other Internet, not just Fresno's). The video has 70k views and counting and has already appeared on sites like:
Today is Fashawn's Birthday and he's going to be partying at The Standard for it. Unaware of the particulars to this (like if he's actually performing or just partying) but we bet if you wear one of his new t-shirts (above), it'll help your chances of getting in ... just don't wear it to church on Sunday. Fash starts partying at 9. The Standard is 21+.
Finally. Our long, unprofessional, drunk, off-putting, horrible sounding, cuss filled, over six-year long journey has finally got us to Episode 100. Dorktown is a podcast for lovers and haters of Fresno. A podcast for nerds, drunks and jerkoffs - In case you forgot.
During this episode there will be too much talking about Dorktown, attempts at conversations about FUSE Fest, the Fresno Fair, Yardhouse, Fulton Mall and other stuff.
Listen up for the special call-ins by Dorktown Listeners and be ready for the Episode 100 drinking game.
So you know that Incubus is in town tonight. That's fine, they did okAaaay the last time we saw them at Save Mart Center. Surely they will be adiquate again. Godsmack will be all hard rock at the Fair on Saturday night. Audra is back in Fresno this weekend too. All good stuff. But we usually prefer the lesser traveled, smaller, local inspired shows.
The kinda shows you'll always find in... BANDGEEK!:
KUPPAJOES: After a big of a hiatus, Kuppa has returned, returned strong too with rising alt-rock band, I Am Empire. They are off of Tooth & Nails Records, are from San Jose and have shared a stage with the likes of Flyleaf, Sublime, Deftones and Silversun Pickups Also playing tonight is Phinehas, Corsair, Blood & Water and Nine Lashes. [$10, 7pm Door, All Ages]
FULTON 55: Leave it to Patrick Contreras to do something extra special that Fresnans aren't used to seeing: "The Tiny Country, Big Show Concert". Please check out this page for more info on this:
BROADWAY KLUB: This venue isn't going to stay a secret for much longer if they keep getting good shows. Los Angeles punk band Naked Aggression plus All Or Nothing, The Furloughs and more:
Not enough people are talking about local rock group, Lezayr. They're very good and are playing at Fulton 55 tonight with Los Angeles alt rock band, Monte Negro. Get out and see them when you can, you won't be disapointed.
The Fresnan is a blog drunk on Fresno's sweet sweet booze.
We like posting about local music and random Fresno culture junk. We like Downtown, tri-tip, South of Shaw battles, tamales and remembering when there was a fig orchard at Herndon & Palm. We like to occasionally go to River Park but tell people we never go there.
